Portable Drives "ThumbDrive"

I need to transfer alot of my data to a new computer and I saw these new forms of portable drives. One was made by memorex called the ' ThumDrive' anyone know anything about these, and if they are worth the money? I was going to get the 258MB one, how many MB's is a gig? Let me know if u guys know anything, or have a better sugggestion

use maybe a zip drive, i forget how much the disks hold, but i think they're cheaper or something than those things ur talkin about

just go get a crossover or serial cable if all you need to do is transefer... uh a gb is 1000 mb zips hold 100 or 250s i think jazz drives are bigger but i forget how much.

you could just use rewritable CD's...i think that tumb drives are type II compact flash cards, i have a 340 microdrive for my digi cam...you're probably a lot better off with a rewriteable cd

Yeah the only problem with that is though is that my burner is messed up, i had a burner for an old imac, and hooked it up to my laptop now and the driver got all fucked up, so I need something to transfer all my shit, and I can't burn anything onto Data CD's because of the burner, but maybe i could transfer it with the cable to another computer and use that burner to make data cd's... haha i dunno, shit i just typed alot.. fuck it

Amazing - 666 said something worthwhile. I agree with him - just get a crossover cable if both machines have network cards. I tranfered about 1Gb from my old Win95 to my new WinXP that way.

 
if both computers have netowrk cards, get a crossover cable and transfer it that way.

Or if both have firewire ports, you could use a FireWire cable to transfer stuff as well.

Of the easiest thing would be to figure out why your burner wont burn, fix it and then make some CD's

 
yeah the cross-over cable seems to be the best way out, i know a friend and his friend that use it on they're comps all the time to transfer data like loads of it gigs, so it works and also seems like a cheaper way out even if you have to buy network cards for them and stuff, they're pretty cheap

look on the back of the computer and look for a female port that looks like a wide phone connection.

Yeah - look for a port that looks like this (RJ45 port):

If the computers have a broadband internet connection, it's likely that it's through a network card. If they are both running Windows 98 or higher, it should be pretty easy to transfer stuff I think. I connected my Win95 and WinXP and it took quite a lot of work, but I got it in the end.

 
sweet man thanks for the help, ya I have this on the back., i just gotta check my other computer and make sure its ligit... how much will the cable run? like 15 bucks?

yeh something like that, if you have a hub u dont need a crossover cable u know.
