Okay. Well I know about the website www.portforwarding.com or whatever so please don't just send me there. I can't figure out how the fuck to get around my goddamn firewall. I am using Azureus, on a Mac. Please...someone. Explain this.

you are trying to get your NAT status to OK on azerus correct? What you have to do in this case is log in to your router and make the changes to either

(a) allow all port traffic through the port # specified in the program 68## (gets listed if you do a NAT test

(b) add your machines IP to the DMZ (de-militarized zone) which will basically let all traffic pass through regardless of your firewall settings.

The process for both these is different for every router but should be fairly evident once you've logged in

OHHH i didnt read it all the way. your firewall..hmm

ok heres what you do (this is for using the windows xp built in firewall, but once you open up the control panel for your firewall, it should be similar)...

1) open up your firewall control panel (start>control panel>windows firewall)

2) click on the exceptions tab

3) click on "add port"

4) under name, put the name (it doesnt matter, just something so YOU remember what that port is for) since you are using it for azures, just type azures for the name

5) type the port number that azures tells you to open up when you go into azures (when you first set azures up, it will test the connection through a port, use that port number)

6) you MAY have to open two ports (the same number, but one for TCP and one for UDP - but i think you just need to open the TCP port) the TCP/UDP selection should be like a check box, or a bullet selection under where you type the number.

7) click ok.

Thanks for all the help so far guys I am going to give it a shot. My router is a Belkin F5D7231-4. I'll let you know how it goes.

Mac- Thanks for the help. I got the NAT thing to change from saying firewalled. It still says that I am DHT firewalled. But not NAT firewalled. I am confused because whenever I try to do a NAT test I get an error. I *think* I am like halfway there.

I put my computer into the DMZ for now.

If you are dht firewalled, and not nat firewalled, it means you only opened the tcp protocol for the port you opened. To used dht you must also open up the udp protocol on the same port. I'd also recommend against putting your computer in a dmz as it leaves it completly open (better to only open the port you need for file sharing). If you have more questions you might want to look at the azureus wiki pages. There's a lot of good information on them here's the link:

http://www.azureuswiki.com

and a page about NAT errors

true...the DMZ is generally a last resort if all else fails and you need an open path to the internet for one reason or another. If you do use that option only activate it for the small time you need the pass-through then deactivate it for general usage.

Yeah I got scurred to have my computer in anything that defines itself as "demilitirized zone" hahaha. So I am back to being firewalled all around. Bah.
