Popularity in high school vs. skiing ability.

this thread makes absolutely no sense. one of the most popular kids i know spends most of his life skiing (race). another very popular kid i know spends most of his life biking.

i ski all winter and bike all summer, and i wouldn't exactly call myself unpopular. anybody can be popular, they just have to make themselves that way.

well im a decent skiier ( modest) and im fairly well known innthe area as being a sucessful skiier. and kids at school are always asking to come skiing with me. and i have like 500 facebook friends. so yea, im good, and im popular.

LOL I just read that back to myself.

but fo real, popularity wont affect your skiing unless your a total headcase

High school is such bullshit anyway. I get so sick of the popularity crap and other HS BS that I don't know how I would survive without skiing. It's the only thing that I look forward too. You can be popular and good at skiing though. Except sometimes people are like "you ski? that's gay." If you snowboard and especially if you're good then you're way more popular.

all the kids in my school either snowboard, or have like racing skis cuz they want to go fast. except for one of my close friends, skis on-piste, cuz 1) thats all there is besides park and 2) he loves moguls and racing.

Everyone at my school knows me cos I ski. Cos I win races for my school and my school tells everyone. But I live at my mountain for the winter term so my popularity gows down for a couple of weeks but I could be friends iwth the "popular" girls and I kind of am but the majority are bitches. Then there are the tri-hard skiers who try to be friends iwht me just because I know all the guys at my moutain. I doesn't really affect my training or my skiing because I dictate my friends and my life.

maybe its cuz my school is fucking tiny but me and my bros are the only guys who ski and we own the school, I've never had to choose skiing over partying cuz we just party in the mountains and then go skiing

idk know if it made me popular, but people definitely know me cause i ski.

i met a couple of the "popular" girls on the hill on time, and they were like," youre good at skiing right?" i was like, kinda, so i did a misty and they went apeshit and people started to know me after that.

Tou'che

I always get shit for being one of TWO skiers at my school, and am constantly getting shity from the ''boarders'' and other fuck ups. But when they happen to notice me at the local hill, i love their expressions and how they talk to me when they know they just got one-upped by a skier. i love that feeling.

I got a lot of shit from people when I wouldnt go out every friday cause I was going to wake up at 5 to ski the next morning.

I dont think I was really that unpopular or popular, my school wasnt really like that.

But then again Im not amazing at skiing.

I was one of the only skiers in my High School so stood out a bit because of that. But that was really only if people knew I did it. Most of the kids at our school snowboarded but either way we were just friends and shredded together when ever we could. I don't think it made me more popular just more unique.

I'm not popular..but not un-popular, jsut one of the normal guys lol

sometimes i cope shit for checking out newschoolers at school or looking up snow reports or new skis, but otehr then that it's cool, we had a school ski trip this year and me and my bro never said we were great skiiers or anything but we got a bit of respect from everyone as they found out how it's not as easy as it seems.

but yeh, don't think it makes a difference to popularity

wat he said^^^^

high school popularity is such a stupid thing. Once your out of high school no one gives a shit about that shit anymore

i find that if someone makes fun of you becuase they snowbaord and are so cool or something like that its becuase they really suck themselves

not where im from....i am kinda one of the "popular" kids and i have never drank or anything....I would say skiing has increased my "popularity" in high school since now i hang out with kids who ski and snowboard and they are the "popular group" and before i skiied i hung out with kids who were less "popular"

i hate saying "popular" its wierd and sounds real stupid

well being the biggest loser in my school i can surely say i also suck balls at skiing so your theory is flawed my friend.

im away every weekend and honestly i could care less skiing is way more fun than anything else so yeah i guess less popularity=better skiing

At my old school I'd alays get shit for wearing I am a Skier shirts and shit

but then I posted a couple of pics and everyone was amazed yet im only decent

Im not afraid to say that i am the best skier at my school because i am. Everyone knows that i am too.And i have plenty of friends that know skiing is what matters to me in the winter. I like when everyone at school comes up to me and says we should ski this week and says your really good at skiing right. There is no correlation between popularity and skiing. There is a correlation between the number of parties you attend in the winter and skiing but who cares go to a party get up at 6 and go skiing. And if people dont realize that you need to ski alot....fuck them.

I think it kinda has a correlation, but with me it doesn't really affect me cus I don't wanna be like all the "popular" kids at my school (aka jocks). And I don't know if this is just my school, but it's not as black and white as popular and unpopular. There are differnt levels in different groups. I'm pretty fluid with my social groups, I have a core group that I hang out with but I seem to get along with everyone, even the jocks. Sure it means going to a lot less parties in the winter, but that's a sacrifice I'm more than willing to make. People know me very well as the skier of the school and I can confidently say I'm the best in my school (not an impressive feat because I go to a private school in NYC and also besides the point)

I say do what you love and love what you do and don't let anything get in the way of that.

you could be on to something. if someone is less popular they might no be dragged into parties and hanging out instead of skiing. its a good idea but it doesnt really seem to work out that way

i live in jackson, and the highschool skiing community is suprisingly small..... regardless i am not at school that much so theres alot of people i havent seen in forever. But id rather be away from school than at school, so i think the decision between the two is obvious, plus jackson is ill.

my best friends brothers are twins, and they arre soo popular with the ladies, they always know where to get bud and where the partys at, so i guess thats not true cause there whole family skis really well too, there very fun to chill with.
