Popping? Is it necessary?

Call me a noob but when I hit jumps I don't really find it necessary to pop. Most jumps, when hit with the right speed will float you right to the landing. I fin popping just fucks up my balance...any thoughts?

Popping becomes necesarry when your looking for that extra height or distance to get that trick around. And i bet you anything your popping of the lip to some extent you just dont notice it. Any time you come to a lip or a ledge of any kind its your natural instinct to pop off it it in some way.

popping is the most necessary part of jumping. try to do a cork 5 without popping. you will die. trust me.

lol, I'm not straight-legged going off jumps...my knees are bent but I'm just saying I don't make an extra effort to pop, I put more of an emphasis on hitting the jump with the right speed. I can pull 5's,7's, and cork 7's so I don't see the necessity....fuck i feel like an oddball

Popping is very necessary when spinning. If you don't pop, you will stay on the angle that the lip was on, causing you to land way backseat if you are landing regular or really far forward if you are landing switch.

you don't always need to pop for rotations under 540. It helps if the jump is a step down. Pollard does such stylish non-popping 3s.

i think popping is necessary on jumps if you have no speed. or if you just want to get higher and get more air popping is necessary. and its is deffently if you're going to rotate anything over a 3. it also helps me keep my balance if i pop. so i always pop. but it is really up to you.

so your name looks like constipated and the title of the thread looks like "Pooping? Is it necessary?"

I just thought I'd point that out.

idk man, aerialists dont pop and they throw 5s pretty easy
but seriously you just dont noticed yourself doing it. gauranteed

When hitting jumps, popping is probably the most important thing to think about. Not only does it give u extra height, but popping while setting the rotation will give u that perfect spin

Unless you're carving you're definatly better off popping. You go bigger and don't look like a noob. Pretty much popping makes you a badass

I think it just gives you more height. On a kicker on my hill, you didnt have to pop at all, but when i did, i didnt go any farther, just had more air time

yeah. really its not like i have to think about popping off the lip it just happens. im sure you pop and just don't realize it...

well like someone said, you are popping you just dont notice. But your doing enough to get you to the landing

yeah you gotta pop a little every time, but sometimes you have to pop alot and other times you barely have to pop at all.  on really big jumps i get all fucked up if i pop alot.

Yes poping does send you farther as well as higher. Me and my buddy hit the step up at whistler side by side going the exact same speed, He barley poped at all and only went like 40 feet past the knucle and I almost overshot completly (that was super scary cause for those of you who have hit that you know how god damn long that landing is). Definatly the most airtime I've ever gotten off a jumpm luckily we where just doing twisters

i think i have a problem too, that i realized a couple days ago while thinking about last ski season. i would straight air a jump and be all wobly and off balance becuz i think i didnt pop enbough, but when i would spin and backflip jumps i would be completely centered in the air and balanced. does popping mean leaning back on your skis and jumping up, almost like an ollie except without a skateboard but with skis(along those lines) or does it just mean jumping off the top of the jump.

it would be funny if you got off balance from pooping too hard...but seriously, you only get off balance from popping off of one foot more than the other
