Pop-Punk

I love it. But the thing is, everyone has a different idea of pop-punk. I use the Vandals as an example of a pop-punk band, when someone else might use like, Green Day. Some people even think it's an oxymoron, but the thing is, bubblegum pop and the Ramones are ridiculously closely related. Now I'm just kinda going off on a history lesson/rant, but whatever. What does everyone else think of it?

There's no such thing as an expiration date for bleue cheese. Instead, it's a 'cheese will most likely be bleuer by this date' date.

I like some of it, some if it is annoying if you listen to it too much, but its usually really catchy

Lateralis, on his turn-ons:

see, freeride 1260, iconsider a lot of Rancid stuff to be Pop-Punk, you saying you hate it is just ignorance to me.

there is nothing wrong with pop-punk if you know where to look. say you turn on some misic channel and see some boy with spiked hair and eye make-up, and decide this is pop-punk, or even go as far as to use it as an example of what all punk is like. neither of these are true, asshole. what's on tv is just what is cool at the time, which seems to be so called 'punk' and 'indie' bands that are on labels like universal or warner. good pop-punk comes from bands like jawbreaker, or screeching weasel, to name a couple. so don't make generalisations about genres you know knothing about.

The Vandals aren't 'Pop-punk', they're on Nitro, and therefore... they rock.

i'd call them pop punk... but then again there are so many damn denominations of punk now that i cant fucking tell... within the general term of punk (respectable or not) theres offspring, bad religion, the vandals, raised fist, good charlotte, new found glory, guttermouth, living end, thrice... obviously the list goes on and those groups are all fairly different so... yeah fuck it. i like pop punk because i cant define what it really is... and i like lots of music. and yes, the vandals fucking rock.

who really cares what type of genre a band or music is, if you like it, then you like it, if not, then don't hate or say it is stupid just because someone has labled it 'pop-punk' or whatever. it seems that everyone is so into having there lables for everything, when if you think about it, what difference does it make? It doesn't make the music sound any different, it is what it is, not what ever that label is. saying anti-flag or rancid or vandels is pop-punk is completely irrelivant. each band is different and has different motives in the message they put through their music, so therefore you can not really generalize and label them to be in a group or genre, like pop-punk.

i like the band called 'The F-UPs'. They are like the only band from Minnesota so i checked them out. They are pop-punk. They're good. The day i see a 12 year-old girl wearing their shirts and considering herself 'hardcore', they're done.

what is punk? i mean the ramones and the sex pistols were the most punk anything was years ago, but now if they came out what would they be considered? i dont think that they would be what people today call punk. so, what is punk? is it the music? the politics? the state of mind?

Good old fashioned early 90s punk is good. New pop-punk crap like Good Charlottes new stuff and Rancid etc is horrid crap. If you listen to it and like it, take a good look in the mirror and you find yourself looking at a 13 year old girl.

With the exception of Indestructable, Rancid is an excellent modern punk band. I should go find you and kick you in the nads for comparing them to Good Charolette.

If nothing else, two of the guys in Rancid were in Operation Ivy...making them a level about most everything else out there right now (or ever).

it seems to me, when i say pop punk people thing of Good Charlott and Simple Plan. so....that is pop punk DAMNIT! that is what people think of so dont even try making it somthing else becuase you will jsut confuse the fuck out of dumbass people and the whole shit will be fucked.

I was woundering how you would describe the sound of those bands in terms of how it differs from even bands that are somewhat similar like NoFx and Anti-Flag. there is no question that Anti-Flag is awsome and Good Charlott sucks but they do have a somwhat similar sound, how is it different?

i guess i would say that good charlott plays chords on a major scale (music therory wise) and they light sounding and generally play notes higher up i guess. is that justice?

NOFX and Anti-Flag are both pop-punk. It's true. They are examples of real 'punk' music that has been dumbed down and made more managable for a larger audience.

i guess i have a different idea of what 'pop-punk' is from a bunch of ppl, but that's ok... if rancid, nofx and anti-flag are considered pop-punk then i do like it... but w/e. I always considered POP-punk as the gay, whiney, wanna-be punk, emo shit like good charlotte and all that other crap.
