Poor Boyz takes the Cake..

It hasn't been a great year for trailers, really.

Sherpas trailer was simultaneously awesome and yet super cheesy and hamhanded. Can't decide if I love it or just liked it. L1P was good, according to formula but not their best trailer every by any stretch. MSP I thought represented everything bad about MSP at their worst - incomprehensible music choice, poor editing and about 20% too long. The PBP trailer was very good, but again, not the best from them ever (EDIAS was the best ever). Of the four people are ranking, I guess I'd do it,

1. PBP

2. Sherpas

3. L1P

4. MSP

How has no body commented on that trailer yet? The time-laps shots were amazing, and hands down best cinematography

The EDIAS trailer was essentially 4 minutes of bangers. I remember asking Jeffy at the time if he, yknow, left any shots for the movie.

I would not say that they are biased, necessarily. You don't like big mountain, so that is just an opinion. You sit on one side of the fence.

Bias would be if, say, you worked for one of the film companies.

In all likeliihood, you judge what you see, and what you like best. That is not necessarily biased.

I'm on the other side of the fence. I hate urban, it bores the shit out of me. I don't tend to watch it, just skip over it. I like big mountain, so my tastes are of the MSP/TGR variety.

The Poor Boyz trailer did not do much for me. I liked some of th big mountain shots, but most of those were not on the level of TGR or MSP. I really see the Poor Boyz trailer as way below those other companies.

In the last few years, Poor Boyz has gone much more towards the big mountain end of things. I like this trend, and I see their movies getting better. This trailer, however, looks to be reversing that trend. I guess we will see, after all it is just a trailer.

While I like the direction Poor Boyz has gone, excluding this trailer, I can't say much for the music. I like the surf punk of the 90's. While the footage in Revolver was great, I did not care for the soundtrack.

Im not sure if i should check my meter but i didnt bother watching it i just kept skipping through it until it reached the end and walked away. I vote it worst trailer so far im not sure why everyone likes it. Level 1 had a great one along with msp even though its the same every year.

All the cinematography is at the beginning with still shots of water and mountains..no one cares about that..its all about the skiing and the capture of the action..not nature

I'm stoked as fuck for all the trailers! Seriously, it's ridiculous how amazing the shots are. I feel like it's gonna be nothing like we've ever seen before.

I really think I'm gonna be like: Awmagawd, that was the best shot ever with every shot!

am i wrong, or did a lot of the skiing shots in the sherpa's trailer look like they were rebated? I know abmas 7, alexi's kang, and jp's backflip were for sure, but were a lot of others as well? that's essentially a WME move. put someone else's action shots with your scenery shots.

im stoked if everyone welcomes quality filmmaking as well, but I honestly didnt make it all the way through that trailer. pretty boring imo

Just to clear this up those Sherpa shots are certainly related to the message they seek. They are showing environmental impacts of industry including, timber harvest, container shipping, mining, construction...

Notice the skiing is all backcountry mostly on-foot-access stuff. No sleds or chairlifts. They are raising awareness promoting positive action to ensure we don't screw things up for future generations. It goes beyond global warming (which can lead to more serious 'Rapid Climate Change Event', more likely a massive cooling).

Back to the movie trailers. I'm stoked as always.

the Sherpa and After Dark bits are my top tier

PBP, MSP, and TGR sit just below.

I'll watch whatever comes out, bring 'em on!

I know Stept is going to be my favorite. Even though it hasn't dropped yet, I just know it's going to the best in my opinion. Other than that, PBP got me very excited and so did MSP. I need to go watch TGR's real quick.

I really dont see how you can rate the PBP trailer better than sherpas. |I actually got kinda bored and fastforwarded it.

Yup, i just watched them both again, and there's not even a comparison. the videography in Sherpas fucking kills it. But yeh i suppose it kind of depends on what type of skiign you like, too much park jumps kinda bores me these days.

For sure. And they, for some reason, feel the need to put some trendy environmental overtone on the film. Nice move, hippies.

MSPSherpasTGRPBP Level 1

Even though i put level 1 at the bottom, its just the trailer. I have no doubt that movie will be just as awesome as everything over the last decade. I thought MSP has the best vibe and some gnarly looking shit though. STOKED.

i think you are wrong, notice the hands on the wall, they are cradling a heart, those shots all have a heartbeat, the tides going in and out. the tree limbs going up and down, it was showing that the world is alive. and most of that skiing required helis and sleds to get to. you dont sled to the top of your line, you sled to the bottom and then head to the top either bootpacking or skinning. they got to the mountain via sled.

level 1 = best urbanpbp = biggest bangers

msp = best powder

tgr = best (suprisingly this year not pow but...) overall

yeah that shot of the skis dropping and all the spray i have for sure seen before somewhere. They had insane time lapses that were really cool, dont get me wrong, but im not exactly sure what a shot of cities or a boat is doing in a ski movie trailer. I mean the logging ones, the wind energy and the other stuff for sure worked with the trailer but some of that seemed kind of arbitrary. great cinematography though. and why haven't i heard of the sherpa cinema before???

I think it's more like we're both right. They were definitely showing that the world is alive in addition to pointing out a couple ways we're fucking up its health. And about sleds, all I pointed out was that none were shown IN the footy. [which is admittedly reused, it'll be interesting to see what happens in the real flick].

Can't wait to see the final cut for lotsa films. The art of flight is another premiere I'm gonna hit for sure.
