When it comes down to it, the three major ski filmmakers, excluding Warren Miller, are Poor Boyz, MSP and TGR. Which company makes the better films?

Remember:

PBP made —

Degenerates, 13, The Game and Propaganda

MSP made —

Sixth Sense, Global Storming, Ski Movie 1&2

TGR made —

Uprising

Further, Mind the Addiction, Los Alamos and Subject 2 Change

I'm gonna go with msp personally. they do such a good job of mixing big mountain and jibbing. Poorboyz and Tgr kick ass too, Dont get me wrong degenerates was a revolutionary movie (for me atleast) but msp always makes tiiite movies

out of those three, i like PBP the most. But that's because i don't like watching big mountain all that much. I think that some of the new companies will bring to angles and approaches to ski videos though, and Poor Boyz may not be the best for much longer.

 
And i agree with mammtoh, though i haven't seen all of scandalous, i like thier filming and editing style the best.

I think my vote is going to have to go to MSP. ONLY because their seems to be more variety in their films and that's what i like to see.

Yeah, TGR is really good, but I dunno... High Life was a good film except for the fact that it was pretty much ALL big mountain. I like more variance I guess. Maybe I'm just weird like that

until this year it was tgr and msp for me. now since i thought focused was a bit boring , its all pbp and level 1 for me.

o when i was comparing msp and pbp i farp wasnt even in the picture, theres not even a comparison in my mind

MSP definitely

TGR will never be the best until they markedly increase their production values - so much is just too amateurish. The best comparison I can give is when Candide was going massive at Superpark, throwing a big 3 and some 5s and stuff - it was in both Ski Movie 3 and The Prophecy. In Ski Movie 3, the camera movement was nice a fluid and the skier was in the centre of frame pretty much the whole time. In The Prophecy, the guy filming is so retarded he's all over the fucking place and, to me, it just takes so much away from the movie. MSPs heli shots are also way better than TGRs. On talent MSP just has the advantage too. Music goes to TGR. PBP is in the middle.

 
i think tgr is turning into the next warren miller, their sponsers are getting less and less core , which means theyre just gonna show flat powder shots with micah black and kent kreitler, sure they rip but big mtns boring to watch. they need to put some more awesome bad ass urban scenes in that biatch

 
^Nope sorry, you're wrong. TGR has some of the sickest footage out their. Anyone who thinks that High Life was a shitty movie should be shot- there was definitely progression being represented in that film.

i personally didn't like high life all that much. The skiing in it is top notch though. jamie pierre's segment was one of the best. i just didnt think the movie flowed very well. My favorite 3 ski movies are as follows:

1) Stereotype - Iberg is a genius and WSKI 106 will probably be sitting on top next year

2) Strike 3 - Berman's best work and best movie from last year

3) Session 1242 - movie left me speechless. Jonny made an epic ski movie.

TGR sucks. Level 1 is the best. And why did you spell out poor boys name and not msp's or tgr's? That right there made the thread biased. all this data is useless. Warren uses the best cameras though.

How does TGR suck? They're devoted to covering a different aspect of skiing (big mountain) and obviously the skiing lifestyle (as they did in High Life)...I fail to see how they suck, I thought High Life was a pretty good flick. They're definitely not like MSP or PBP, which have rather structured videos (segment by segment), but I still think that TGR does a fine job of representing skiing as a whole.

infact... we had so fucking many of them (TGR movies) like boxes of them for some damn reason. So We'd get super wasted and throw them at the rock fireplace from the kitchen all night long... in fact, if you look closely in BLUNT durring the water fight extra footage, you can see subject to change all over the living room. Good times.
