Pontoons in the east?!

so there's a ski shop at okemo that carries these beasts. my question is who would actually buy the pontoons at okemo?

that first reply was harsh. Though if they just have a couple of pairs then thats the case. But anymore would pretty much be a waste for a shop, unless they sell online

Regardless of where you are, they's always going to be the rich bitches to buy them and (attempt to) ski them on the groomers to show off how "in style" they are.

i basically felt that it was kinda dumb for a shop in okemo to have pontoons but they were pretty sweet to look at

well becuase all the cool kids will be rocking them, fuck your small ass skis I will be rocking the park with those bad boys. (if I could afford them)

because believe it or not some people actually ride fat skis without powder, and then there's the people who maybe go out west every year...or travelers

i dont even see how those would be legit in whistler. unless it's a serious serious serious powder day, alot of the time at whis you're riding on a little bit of hardpack, and anything not groomed is pretty much moguled up. I'm not complaining at all, the skiing is sick, but I just don't see those skis as a viable option unless you are constantly in the BC, or have enough money to spend a season in, say, alaska.

as for why a shop in the east would carry them, I can almost guarantee they don't expect to sell them. Instead it's a way of showing how core they are, maybe a means of legitimizing their operation to people like us. They look good on the floor, and they attract everybody's attention. Plus, ummm, you guys are on here talking about this shop, so about 60 000 other people have now heard about it. Not a bad investment for them is it?

Don't make it a marketing movvve. I still haven't seen the shops name.

"so there's a ski shop at okemo that carries these beasts."

Is all I know...and I know plennnnty of shops in and around Okemo.

Anyways, saying you can't ski 'toons is like saying you can't ski spats, or anything really big and fat. People love big fatties. They're totally skiable where it calls for it.

well i guess it worked cause i was driving home and i saw them in the window and i stopped in the shop just to see them up close so yes it was responsible for bringing me in to the shop. but i didn't buy anything, i just took pictures of it with my phone

I just don't get why shops in the east carry skis like Pontoons or ANTs or anything along those lines. Nobody's going to need them unless they travel elsewhere (a place that also carries skis). As somebody said before me, it's just for the cool kids to look cool.

a shop up at killy has the prophet 130's and i always look at them every time i come in cause i've never seen such a fat ski and i always show my friends it too cause it's fun to look at

ye but prophets are rockable on the east coast. They are good on groomers I have heard and can kick it in the trees. And they are always there for the occasional powder day maybe once a year.

It's funny you guys can make this into an argument though...about which shops carry what skis. Does it effect you that much they bought a pair? Chilll out. Shops order whatever the fuck they want, shops can order skis specifically for someone, any of that...com'on nowwwww.

yea but these aren't your average fat ski, i dont think you'll catch many people riding pontoons on groomers except to get to the lift. and if you look under their googles they'll probably be crying.

Yeah, you and your buddy on spats can go rip up some groomers sometime. Some skis are too specific for one condition to be of any use in others; Pontoons would fall under this category. It would be like taking slalom skis out in 3 feet of powder.

It would be insanely hard, but still possible.

It's not like skis will stop working if there on a snow style they're not made for, but it will be a fucking HARD time to work them.

I think WE ALL KNOW THIS, but for those who don't, be smart.

Check TGR for the Spat. vs. Pontoon review too.

yeah man i live in ohio and i know someone who rides madens so he can ride ontop of the slush to get speed for jumps or whatever he is doing
