Pollards vs. Pistols

next year im gettin either 04-05 Pollard's in a 166 or 04-05 Seth Pistols in a 169 for backcountry skis. which ones should i get? and why? thanks

East Coast, yay. (Unfortunately the west is better)

I have a 96 VW, with more problems then Iraq. -west
 
grow some, then get 186 pollard or 189 pistols...

Those skis shouldn't even be MADE in those lengths, please don't tell me you intend to BUY them! They shouldn't make that kind of ski in less than a 180cm.

dude, i all reality those 2 skis are completely different, and right away i wouldn't even touch the pollards, i took them out the other day and they were just terrible, the pistol on the other hand is the most stable fun pow ski out there, with exception of the maiden wich i was on the other day as well, but anyway the pollard was not to fun, not bad on groomers but pow it just wasn't as fun as the pistol or maiden

well im 5'3'' and according to my doctor 'i should be having my growthspurt soon' so yeah, plus i tend to ride longer skis, i just like it more.. what sizes do ak maidens come in?

yep that would be true.. but uhhh, considering i go out to ALTA at least for one week every month in the ski season and we do have some places like Jay Peak.. so they come in handy

You don't want the Made' N Ak ski. Way too much ski for you. You must be like 12, if your doctor says you are having your growth spurt soon. ? ?

I just bought next years Pistols in a 179, and I made the right choice. The Pollards, to be honest are slacking something. They are noodles torsionally. And the flex is really progressive. It just like stops all of a sudden. It seems that way with all Lines. They flex soft then immediatley stiffen on you and stop.

I don't know. It just seems that it wouldn't have that much liveliness than others. Hell, I've never been on Lines so there.

Anyways, make your own decisions dammit! It's really annoying when people ask what ski I should spend 500 or 600 on just because the majority tells me to. Be a little more independent 'CLASH'

 
Seth pistols, the 189's! you will be fine with a longer ski, especially if actually ski the ski!

and you cant really compare the Pistol and the Pollards, they are made for completely different types of skiing. first figure out what type of ski you want, park or pow, then decide which ski.

I find it fantastic that that pic out of that dude's portfolio is still kickin' round. That was a prototype, and it's really called the made'n AK. As in 'Made in Alaska'.

i dont see why you need a powder ski in the first place, you say you are 5' 3 and havent even hit puperty yet. i think you are to young to even need a powder ski. you are prob close to a hundred pounds so just about any ski you are one will give you enough float. and second, if you are getting a pow ski then your prob want a park ski too, and why would you have your parents or you waste the money to buy 2+ pair of skis that you will grow out of before the season is over. go get some mini PE's and wait until you are bigger

 
mini PE's are the worst, my friend has them and they suck nutties.. i have 4frnts already but whenever i go out to ALTA and Snowbird.. they dont really float that well.. so i'm either gonna settle with LBFs or seth pistols

you have 4frnts and your complaining about pow skis. dont give me that shit. all these kids these days are to worried about wide skis. people use to ski pow with 60mm waists. so you surely dont need pow skis if you already have 4frnts, expescally if you are gonna grow more

WEll I'd say the biggest difference between those two skis, besides that the pistol is a good bit wider, is that the Pollards are stiffer. Personally I think the Pistols are way too noodley. I've heard next years are going to be a little stiffer but I wouldn't count on it. The Pollard's are stiffer which is going to be better all around especially if you are mostly skiing them on the east coast. If you are looking for a straight up pow ski go with the Pistols and forget about the Made'n AKs. Those thing are huge and have no sidecut. I've heard thet aere a bitch to turn. Most these people talking about them are just trying to sound cool but in all honesty probably couldn't even handle 'em.
