Pollards secret big ski!

i was reading the development story on the sir francis bacon and.....well ill let tyou guys read it

Eric is not only a sick skier; he's an artist, a visionary and most of all an incredible inventor. Most people will tell you they wish a ski was a little softer or stiffer, with more or less sidecut. When Eric wants to change a ski, he doesn't change it, he invents a new one. Read the PROPHET DEVELOPMENT STORY to understand what we're talking about. The Elizabeth and Sir Francis Bacon is one of those skis that many don't understand the first year because its so damn ahead of its time, (like many of our new models) but those that get on it can never go back.

Eric was spending 20 or more days a year snowboarding and was always frustrated when he went back to his skis that he couldn't get the same performance out of them. After months of thinking about it, he sent us some designs for a ski that had snowboard like features for snowboard like performance. He wanted a deep sidecut that was super quick at the tips and bigger in the waist so that he could carve easily off the lips of jumps to get corked and carve effortlessly once put on edge like a snowboard. He asked for a very soft flex so that he could butter on them in control like a snowboard instead of fighting the stiff flex. He made the geometry and stance slightly set back only about 1.5” but made the flex symmetric so that it would respond equally over terrain when riding forward or backwards. He insisted on sidewall construction for not only cool looks but a very forgiving snowboard-like feel when on edge. Then of course he wanted it to be wide for stomping fakie landing in pow and he strongly believes you should never ride anything narrower than your sneaker even on hard-pack. Ask him about it.

The result was the Elizabeth, possibly the most fun freestyle ski ever created. Most people think of this as a powder specific freestyle ski but Eric actually uses it mostly for park and insists that over time, others will as well. When he's exclusively in the powder he actually uses a 140-150mm waist version of the Elizabeth that we build for him only…for now.  We made Elizabeth in a 172cm length only because that's what Eric rides for reduced swing-weight and light, optimal maneuverability while doing tricks. As you now know the ski was a huge success with the few that purchased the limited quantity produced the first year. Many skiers asked for a longer version so we listened and built the Sir Francis Bacon. While we were building a new length, Eric thought it would be a good bonus to go 5mm wider and adjust the tip transition too for even better float.

Eric painted the Elizabeth on canvas then we scanned it in the computer to print the top. The Sir Francis Bacon he drew on the computer using Adobe Illustrator. Eric named each of these skis . . . he's a creative guy. The Sir Francis Bacon was a famous dude who, coincidentally, was around in Queen Elizabeth's time.

WAHT!

He has been using 150mm waist skis for literally years. I remember seeing him on them a long time ago at Meadows.

yeah i was looking at this years salomon guns and there like 93 or seomthing and iremeber saying "damn thats fat" wow thats actually tiny haha

but then again... im from the east coast :)

Yeah he has always had FATTY skis on the hill before there time. I love ripping meadows and seeing him on his snowboard hes really good at boarding.

i have a friend with a pair of the 150 lizzies that he got form pollard... it looks like the bindinging are even mounted to the inside edge of the ski a little for him. they are rediculously large skis.

150mm is really fucking fat. Thats fatter then the Fatty Pus. Why dont you just snowboard? No offense, but 150mm shouldnt be considered a ski.

don't bash it till you try it. Obviously he likes it cause he's been doing that for a few years now. I'd love to try a pair

i rode a pair of the 150 under foots... kinda over kill..... i mean you cant even get a face shot..... you dont sink in.

i was on the 130's for two days last year in the park and they were funner than anticipated. not something to ride all the time but fun times were had.

i have some Prophet 130s.....i live on the east coast......gonna be using them on jumps and shit yo....ultimate steeze.

why even go that big?? sure you can land good in deep pow, but trying to get more than a three would be hard..

Well hang on now. I think that Eric Pollard had been one of the most innovative skiers, and has definately elevated our sport to a new level numerous times. Like the article said, his designs have been a few years ahead of their time. I believe this is where skiing is headed...

pollard thinks he is fucking god. why does he, and most everyone else, think that he is the gratest visionary in the history of skiing. eventually he's gonna want the best powder tool available, and stumble on McConkey's creations. either that, or he's going to take 2 snowboards and mount them with ski bindings.....which McConkey already did like 6 years ago. people actually call him "the prophet".......here's an idea: lets make a 200mm waist ski. nobody has thought of that yet! shit, i'm a fucking deciple of the phophet himself.

I think he just has a different preference when it comes to big skis. He obviously knows McConkey and is familiar with his skis, but he chooses traditional shapes. What's your problem anyway? Who are you to tell someone their preference is wrong?

are you shitting me? i clearly revealed in my post that i am pollard's motherfucking DECIPLE. know what the next BIG thing is gonna be? SURFBOARDS, bitches. that's right. and not some wimpy florida coast shortboards either. big ass tow-in gun style boards. they have the sickest shapes but are long enough to make it so you can safely ski-BASE without a parachute by slowing your terminal velocity to a mellow 35 mph. i rule.

oh yeah, and pollard is dick nasty at art. he is an artíst. i'm gonna buy all his skis and mount them on my walls because they are far more beautiful than anything i could by from a sidewalk vendor in a blind colony. especially the sir francis bacon. I'll admit, the elizabeths are cool and i almost bought them.

McConkey is an innovator in thinking up ways to hit insane bottomless powder. Pollard is an innovator in designing creative skis that are sick in the park and pow and everywhere. Its like comparing apples to oranges. They are both undoubtedly innovators.

Next year they're selling a 186cm mid 140mm's waist ski to the public. if I didn't already have that exact ski but with an even better core (bamboo in my KW Megafats) I'd be all over it.

you don't know what you are talking about. the skis have different shapes and strange flex patterns, that in fact have never been seen in skis before. it's different than the toons and spatulas for that reason.

and it's opinion that says he is good or not good at art. stop being a bitch and ripping when you haven't thought about what you are saying.
