So I live on a island... Long island, we have one of the highest population of sharks off our eastern coast and I know most people here hate shark week. I guess cause were in the ocean so much its just pushing the idea of a shark attack.

So now the poll part

How far do you life from the ocean?

Do you enjoy shark week.

Me now

12miles from ocean

1Mile to sound

I don't like shark week

too complicated. When I lived in Hartford, what is it ~25 miles to ocean? yet I was never scared of sharks, cause fuck sharks dont attack shit in hammonassett or misquamicut. Well, 75 miles from chatham where my buddy lives and we used to kayak out there and fuck me I am scared of sharks out that way.

I live in Des Moines,Wa. 2 mins from the sound. We only have bottom sharks/6 gill sharks g.that get up to 16 ft long.... They only come up at night... so that is kinda scary.

Yes I like shark week even if it does make me more scared to swim in the Puget Sound.

pretty damn close, which sucks for snow, but its alright.

fuck yes shark week is the shit

I'm like an hour away and I think shark week is pretty stupid. Once you've been near them in the water you realize that they try to avoid you just as much as you try to avoid them

Only shark I have to worry about,

I live in CT, like a boss

I drive 45 min. to westbrook beach every weekend and i can literally see long island across the bay

i went swimming in the water, cause i aint no bitch

Just because odds are very low that you will be bitten does not mean they will never bite you. Its alright to have a valid fear of a real threat.

north santa barbara county.8 minute walk from the beach.lompoc my hometown from when i was a kid was mentioned on shark week this year due to an attack at the beach i surf at last december.we hate shark weekalso another of my favorite surf spots pismo peir had a great white sighting during shark week this yearshark week always jinx's us. and i will not surf during shark week due to the slim chance of me getting killed in an attack during sharkweek and being laughed at around the nation for the kid who got killed by a shark during shark week.

I spent all of july on long Islands north fork. Wakeboarded in the sound and peconic baysharks fascinate me so I love shark week. and I spent july on my grandmothers bayside house. and also I spotted a hammer head in the sound /claim

were the real threat ? seriously ?

sharks kill 5 people or less every year,

we kill 100 000 000 sharks every year ,

i feel like were the bigger threat and that they should avoid us more then we should avoid them

i live less than 5 minutes from the ocean, and i dont like shark week because its sorta the same stuff each night. but we do have a lot of seals in our area (northern massachusetts), which is a prime meal for great whites, but the water isnt always warm enough for them

I understand the numbers there, and I am a big advocate of conservation obviously, but you are attributing a human feeling to an animal that has none. I know that attacks are rare, and they are not maliciously attacking us, but I think you are missing my point.

The sharks are out there living their lives, unaware if they are to get netted or not (whether that is right or not is not important), meanwhile, we are out surfing etc, and we are scared of sharks. This is my point. They SHOULD avoid us, but they are animals so they dont know any better. Even though only 5 people a year die from sharks, I understand how attacks happen and I am fucking scared of that small ass risk, because I am a person.

sick hammerheads aree awesome i spent 3 weeks , with hammerheads and other kinda sharks diving im working on a little slideshow haha

Trust me man, I absolutely agree. I love the ocean with all my heart, at the same level as my love for the mountains. I love being on the water.

I am just scared of having my leg bit off. Doesn't mean I can't think sharks are awesome still though.

well, in michigan its pretty safe to say i wont ever have to worry about sharks, and i really joy shark week. lets hope those sharks with cable aren't watching and getting any crazy ideas

minnesota, kinda land locked when it comes to the ocean.

I don't watch shark week and am a strong contender for bear week.

best episode ever.

How far do you life from the ocean?

about a 5 minute drive!

Do you enjoy shark week.

meh, its ok

I live in Vancouver right next to the beach

I enjoy shark week but not the tons of "trendy" facebook status's that go along with it

gonna expand on this a little, live on the north shore (near boston) about a minutes drive from the ocean (used to live across the street from the ocean in southern california. i have been swimming with sharks, i have seen a great white shark in a very populated marina i used to go to and i have seen a giant 16 ft great white shark swimming directly at me (in a 32ft sail boat) with its fucking jaws open (i was steering the boat and it went right behind our boat missing us by about a foot. AND I FUCKING LOVE SHARK WEEK idk what it is but im just fascinated by sharks especially

trust me bro, Im not scared getting into the water. I am scared however when the motherfuckers skim past my feet at night while im out on my longboard relaxing.... terrifying

about 45 minutes to the closest beach.
i do like shark week, but i miss my other discovery channel shows that i usually watch like Sons of Guns and Surviving the Cut

wmass ~2hrs from the ocean, but sea kayak and swim off the coast a lot

i fucking love shark week

sharks are boss

being a shark attack victim/survivor (hand lacerations nothing bad few stitches here and there) i like shark week because it shows you how rare it really is and how fucking unlucky i was that one fateful day in mexico. But i swam the next few days but not for long it took me a lil bit to regain my confidence to go swim out "deep" off scarborough and huntington when im on vacation. And now the super duper exciting story we were on a snorkeling trip in mexico and the guides were like there are many sharks but they do not bite they are docile and are used to humans..well any we jump in and we are chillen on this reef for a bit when we witness the first group on black tip reef sharks it was a lil creepy but the guides confidence helped then boom one comes out of nowhere and grabs my hand...it must of realized i wasnt a fish because it let my hand go right after it bit it...then it just swam away...i go to the first aid place at the hotel they stitch me up and i chilled for the next few days

Thats scary as hell and unfortunate that that happened. But that is a badass story to be able to tell now.

moving to key west in two days, will be scuba diving with sharks every day
and is there a better week than shark week? i think not

about 100 miles. In oregon its an easy drive, i fucking love sharkweek but like previously mentioned i miss sons of guns and one man army. Although i was happy that my only swimming during the week was in a river.....

Im about 20 miles from the sound in CT. Lots of CTers in this thread. I love shark week and have no reason to be overly scared but I know they're there in ow numbers.

if you can see long island across the way its the sound... good for you, you were swimming in shit water that doesn't even have any sharks
