I need to conduct a poll for school so if you could please answer.

Do you think that violent video games cause real world violence?

-Yes

-No

Thanks for your time.

there is always gunna be some idiot who go "well it didnt say do not try this at home" so i thought it was safe or ok to steal my moms car and drive it off a bridge and then beat her up

let me rephrase the question into better terms.

Is it rational to blame violent video games for real world violence?

no. i've been playin violent games since i was like 8. it started out with wolfenstein, doom, duke nukem. then went on to games like hexxen and quake. its what you teach your kids that influences it.

Which would be chalked up as a no, because blaming video games is not rational in that situation.

No. Jack Thompson can go die.

partially, there are some kids you just shouldn't let play videogames like counterstrike or GTA. some kids think because they do it in the game they could do it in real life

the vast majority of kids would not have a problem with this but people like this guy do:

if you actually knew about the whole situation, its been proven that doom was not the answer. violent games have been on the rise, while teen violence has gone down.

Exactly. Normal, rational people aren't affected by violent video games. Sure, parents have to be responsible to make sure that their child is mature enough to handle the game, but that's a problem with society, not with violent video games. The people who do these school shootings and other violent acts are DISTURBED PEOPLE. It's not the video game that's causing them to act out, it's a mental illness.

And anyone who seriously believes that a video game significantly affects a normal person should really look at the rest of society first. Hell, the evening news is more violent than a lot of video games. Not to mention all the violent movies and TV shows there are. I would be more understanding of anti-video game people if they were against all the other forms of violence in our society, but they are not. After any school shooting, Jack Thompson is on CNN saying video games are to blame. Does he mention that the shooters were clearly disturbed? Does he mention movies, tv, or any of the other violent influences in society? No. He claims the shooters "trained" on violent video games.

Look at what happened on Monday. Jack Thompson is on Fox News HOURS after the shootings blaming video games. The shooter hadn't even been identified yet, and video games are already to blame. And look who the shooter turned out to be? An extremely disturbed person. He was so obviously disturbed that one of his teachers was afraid of him. Now chances are, he had played a video game in his life. Does this mean that he "trained" to kill all these people on that game? Of course not. But they will inevitably get blamed.

Now, what most people seem not to realize is that the claim that someone could train to massacre people on a video game is completely ridiculous. As I said before, we are all already desensitized to violence by everything else in society, so video games alone cannot be blamed for that. And playing a violent video game is not going to teach you how to shoot a gun. Shooting a gun accurately is not as easy as pressing the X button. They should ban duck hunt if they're worried about kids learning to shoot weapons.

So if kids can't learn how to shoot a gun from video games, and they are already desensitized to violence by the other factors in society, then how are they training America's youth to go and shoot up their schools? Either I'm missing something, or blaming video games is completely ridiculous.

Sorry about the length, I just got into writing there for a while.

no, every NORMAL kid by about the age of 13 knows that you can't just go around and kill some people and think there are no consequences.

no, if they did the violence we have now would be insanely higher. almost every kid i know play sum sort of violent game we havent commited violent crimes

no...not even close...almost everyone who commits violent crimes who plays video games has a more evident factor that is causing them to be violent.

i think that to some extent yes. there are many people out there and someone is going to think that you can do whatever you can in real life if you can do it in a video game. if you factor out the tiny percentage of people it is almost completely irrational. if a person does commit a crime then there is most likely are more prominent explanation, reason, or cause for that action. video games would contribute the least to the action of a crime or action.

yes..i heard some shit a while back that these kids shot people driving by on a highway because they did it in GTA and were bored.

I think it does. Just because some kids don't have friends and thats all they do is play violent games and then when they get frustrated at someone they only know what the games have taught them
