Skiing without poles? Next you will want to buy a pair of snowblades (not that there is anything wrong with that). The whole point of poles is to establish a good stance and balance. good stance and balance allows for a correct 'centre of mass'. These are the fundamentals of advanced skiing which allow you to go bigger and better in all aspects of skiing WITHOUT falling! Poles are part of the equipment, try kayaking without a paddle, Baseball withouy a bat, skating without trucks... Its just how its meant to be.

Moguls without poles would look hella funny,it'd be so hard to do.Anyone has a vid of someone doin moguls without poles?

I know the aerial team can spin really fucking fast without poles,I wonder if they could put some style in those by grabbing....

wow guys.. i meant, in the park do you even use your poles, like i just hold mine up for steeze but i dont really use them to turn and shit in the park.. OF COURSE you need to use them in other places.. also, im not saying that you shouldnt use poles cause thats extremely homosexual.. you should ALWAYS use poles, but does anyone even stick their poles into the ground in the park? (i know they're for balance guys, no need for the reminder)

I think if you can ski w/o poles and make it look godd then you are way better than someone who skis with poles. As skiers we rely to heavily on poles for balance and such. If you can ski just as good without poles it can only maek u a better skier with poles. Your balance will be better and your arms and upperbody will be a lot quieter in the air.

Im not saying people who do moguls and race are bad skiers, thats far from my point.. my point was that alot of the people who switch to freeskiing or whatever the fuck we call it nowadays, left because of that attitude of what was going on...

Next year when hitting smaller BC booters I probably won't use my poles for trying new tricks because it is definitely easier to get the grab and it's a lot more like when you're doing tricks on the trampoline. With poles, I feel awkward when doing new tricks because I feel like I'm gonna stab myself in the side in an awkward fall, although I do feel naked without them I'll get used to it. I'll still use them in the park though because there's a lot more groomer than park where I live and it feels more natural with the poles when skiing threw the snow the snowboarders chewed up.

I personally just find poles useful while skiing whether for balance skiing...Clicking out of bindings...using them to rest on at the top of a run...and so many fmore uses...The question isnt what are poles for? ITs What arent poles for?

I just don't understand this debate. Skiers use poles. But no I don't really use poles when popping of a lip. There usually out to the side getting ready to help me spin.

skiing looks more proportioned with pulls, think about it if your rockin a pair of 180's you pro have 75 cm of ski infront and behind you, your arms only about 60 to 70 cms so if you have pulls. It looks way better when things are proportioned, think of a gurl with the same mesurements but drastically different heights, the shorter one might look fat and gross were the taller one might look super hot, plus you cant actually ski with out pull (that means out side the park)

I think that the 'no pole' rule originated from the fact that newschool skiiers do not want to resemble arielist and skiboarders.

Yeah, I personally don't care if someone has poles or not. Diversity is key...be open to change.

i agree with andy, just think of the AWESOME grabs you would be able to do without poles.. now that i stopped using poles because of an internet forum post, ill be able to do my dream grab, the quadtruple japan to luikang to double mute, without becoming entangled.

 
i only use poles so's that i can take off my skis without havin' to bend over and let my ass hang out while i use my hands to release my bindings
