Please dont write essays about why Bush is bad or why Paul is good or why communism works or terrorism is immoral or anything apart from one of these choices. Would be interesting to see what we get.

The further right, the more you want your specific nation to grow through economic growth compared to other nations to be more prosperous and so a better and more comfortable place to live for most of the population. The more left you are, the more you want people to share their wealth to create better welfare for its populace and so benefits the poorer people but has higher taxes to create less social boundaries. Very far right is fascism, very far left is communism.

Are you:

- Right

- Center Right

- Center

- Center Left

- Left

?

This is actually the first political thread I've ever made. I just find politics interesting, especially at the moment. I'd say the Dems were centre right and the Repubs were right.

"conservative" is right, "liberal" is left.

How can you categorize your entire political spectrum into 5 different labels? I'm a libertarian, with strong socialist views as well.

^To clarify, wanting more liberties is a left wing ideal. The whole Liberte, egalite, fraternite thing is a socialist motto. Right wing ideals include controlling liberties to increase securities. Its less 'sociable' (socialist).

a libertarian would be far right, while a socialist would be somewhat far left. ironically, they DO have a lot of similarities. kind of illustrates the problems with the traditional left-right political spectrum. it just isn't that simple.

Yeh, Libertarianism is an anomaly in the scale. They believe in living their own lives without governmental encroachment. They disagree with values of charity (right wing) but crave liberty (left wing).

Ok, Ok. I suppose as you get to each end of the scale they kind of merge together. Forgetting communism, fascism, libertarianism it kind of works.... :)

Fair enough, the scale is now defunct, just say whatever

the scale is full of anomalies. the only place it really makes sense is in a narrow region near the middle. it works somewhat for american purposes because most american politicians fall into that area.

Why are so many of you guys Right? Right is conservative, that means you like the way things are going. How could you possibly think that? Do you live under a rock? Or maybe it's just the umbrella of American Media.

Left is needed to change what is being done wrong, and Right is needed to keep the things we are doing right.

You have to slide back and forth on the scale. Movement is the answer. Dont get stuck.

Wow so many of you have no idea what libertarianism is. First of all you cannot be both a libertarian and a socialist, the two views couldnt be farther apart. Socialists believe in a large government that controls a lot of different things, like certain industries, transportation, ie... works. Libertarians believe in the exact opposite, a small limited government that has control of very few things in the country.

Also you cannot place libertarianism in this scale because it borrows the ideals of economic freedoms from the conservative side and social freedoms from the liberal side.

neocons are more liberal then conservative. Ron Paul is a true libertarian conservative. electing a democrat is not the answer. all the top tier dems are pro war.

So, not trying to sound condescending, I've been reading up on Ron Paul and he doesn't have a good answer for 'what do you do if something like 9/11 happens again?' All I've heard is him, and others, repeat that they will make sure it DOESN'T happen again - not a good answer. So, being anti-war to the fullest extent, what happens then? Yell at the terrorists?

and the dems aren't necessarily PRO-war, just as a pro-choicer isn't PRO-abortion. It's just a matter of circumstances and reality.
