Political Forum?

Ok, I think its time for a politics forum on NS. No, not a cult, cults are dead and no one really visits those anymore except for a select few.

For some reason, somebody keeps deleting all of the "controversial" threads, even if they get long. Often yes, these threads turn out to be very long and often alot of arguing, but isn't that the point of having a forum? It gets boring when threads die all the time after like two pages.

People on this website want to get involved in Politics etc and many of them need to get informed, you know there is more to the world than skiing.

For example, I posted a video of Ron Paul on Glenn Beck last night talking about the current economic crisis and it was deleted in about 30 seconds while threads about some fucking stupid 12 year old bullshit remain. This thread was not pusing any agenda and I felt that NS needed to see it. Ron Paul is not running for president anymore, BUT he knows a fuckload about the economy and why things happen the way they do. People are realizing he is a genius on the economy and starting to listen to him.

Are you trying to make this site for 13 year olds now? Yes, thats the thing with politics, not everyone agrees, but it seems that if one of the mods disagrees, the thread gets instantly deleted (hrmm maybe J.D. May doing this?) while if an obama thread was posted, it would be allowed to remain for ever probably since JD seems to support Obama even though he is not from the USA.

Im not trying to sound pissed off, but Im actually trying to make this site better. I think its definately worth trying for a while, yea if it turns out bad, you can always get rid of it, but I think it would work well and add something new to the site.

I honestly thought about this the other day, its cool you posted about it. Its good to be informed politics, and I can say that I have learned a lot through reading on here. Mods can moderate it as a healthy debate/discussion forum. If it doesn't work, take it off. Why not?
 
Being around the average age of this site, with maybe a little more intelligence, I will say that as I get older I pay more and more attention to politics. That being said, after the presidential race and the aftermath is over, I probably won't give a shit again...could this be just a temporary idea? Or not a main forum, but in a side one, like regionals, camp, and event forums? That would be sickter...
 
As I've gotten older I have posted in political forums WAY less because I can't handle the immaturity of 95% of the posts.
 
decent idea, at least that way threads in NSG about penguins or something wouldn't turn into a political clusterfuck.
 
I know what you mean...its like that everywhere on NS now. There's no way around that though unless you would make it a cult, which contradicts the idea of a political forum...

If the only people posting in there were smart/intelligent/reasonable/worldy, then we'd be all set.
 
idk i feel like i've actually learned a little on here while sifting through the bullshit in political threads. i think it'd be a good idea really. idk how hard it is to code a new forum though?
 
thatd be so sick. i hate seeing so many politics threads. not that i dont care or anything its just that politics arent really my thing
 
a couple other message boards i visit have implemented temporary political forums leading up to the election. i agree its kinda lame when a thread gets deleted
 
It would be nice to stop having dumb shit political threads of 15 year old's who think they know what they're talking about.
 
There have been several solid attempts at political discussion cults, but they've all died out after a few weeks.
