Political Compass

I know there is the other thread about where you are on the political spectrum, but I'm willing to bet some people think they are center when they really are not or that some people really don't know where they stand on the political spectrum.

Check out www.politicalcompass.org

It's a survey that asks you a bunch of questions and will tell you where you fit in and compares your results to old presidents, prime ministers, and dictators. Not only does it tell you if you are left or right, but also authoritarian or libertarian.

Hopefully this website helps you out.

My score was

Economic Left/Right: -3.00

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -1.95

I found out about this website in grade 12 politics, and I do it once a year, im going into third year of poli sci next year and its honestly amazing how much you can change every year

last year my score was -4 and -2.36

Economic Left/Right: -3.63

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.13

I'm close to Ghandi and Mandella.

economic left/right -1.13

social libertarian/authoritarian -5.28

the person i'm closest to is the dalai lama

-2.50

-3.59

Close to Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. Some questions I wasn't exactly sure about. I'

l'll take it again and see what I get.

I hate this thing. It's absurdly slanted. Just the fact that they phrase most of the questions positively for the conservative side of things alone makes it questionable. But shit like this?

“If economic globalisation is inevitable, it should primarily serve humanity rather than the interests of trans-national corporations.”

“Our race has many superior qualities, compared with other races.”

“The only social responsibility of a company should be to deliver a profit to its shareholders.”

“All people have their rights, but it is better for all of us that different sorts of people should keep to their own kind.”

“People with serious inheritable disabilities should not be allowed to reproduce.”

So if I disagree with those statements, I’m some sort of pinko commie liberal whack job? Give me a fucking break, those are obviously absurd things to begin with, one’s opinion on them has no bearing on political alignment. If you really think the disabled shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce and your race is superior, you’re not right wing, you’re an evil prick.

i took this yesterday so i dont have the exact numbers, but i was closest to the dalai lama, that is about 3/4 the way down and in the middle/right of the bottom left box. I considered myself a libertarian before i took the test and i suppose it qualified that characterization though i do agree the questions are a bit slanted.

I'll admit I didn't understand a few questions though. What is protectionism? They asked if protectionism is sometimes necessary in trade, and I just said I agree I think because I wasn't sure what it was.

Economic Left/Right: -2.38

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.26

most of the questions really seem bias tho

I think this is biased to the left.

It is suprising that no-one has recieved a score indicating they are right wing.

I am centre right yet I am -2.13 on the left/right spectrum. Maybe the whole thing is slanted to represent yourself as more leftist than you actually are.

I scored -2.72 on the libertarian/authoritarian scale, which I agree with.

As the guy a few posts up said, alot of the questions were slanted to begin with.

Economic Left/Right: -5.25

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -6.51

This website is absolute bollocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a British Green party propaganda piece.

hehe.

It is swayed. Everone ends up in the bottom left quadrant and then when you look at the party political spectrum, the Green Party is the only dot anywhere near you!

BOLLOCKS!!!! indeed gregor! You great eegit!

Say somebody has a debilitating disorder that is 100% guaranteed to be transmitted to a child if conceived. Say the disorder is to the point that a child would hardly recognize their own existence, with no real development of the human psyche...A living vegetable only capable of comprehending the need to eat and shit. Does it make me an evil prick if i think that person shouldn't have the kid, knowing full well they will end up as a drain on society? Especially considering the parents won't be able to care for the child since they themselves suffer the same disorder. Eugenics...self direction of evolution basically. Evil prick? dont really think so...

You need to learn some genetics dude, you're views are screwed.

A drain on society? Fuck man.

fuck dude, its called survival of the fittest. there are good chances that that person with the disease/syndrome would not be able to reproduce anyway. even if he/she could it is unlikely that anyone would partner with him/her to create a child

I need to learn genetics? And that has what to do with what exactly? I'm fucking making up a hypothetical disorder to argue a point. Jesus christ.

It seems like people are happy to be close to the Dalai Lama in this thread...he may be a very enlightened spirirtual person, but I don't think his economic/political views are something compare yourself to.

I'm the Dalai Lama!

The thing about this though is that every issue, no matter how simple, has more than two positions, and the scoring they use doesn't allow for complexity.

Exactly, you made it up. Your point is totally invalid as no such condition exists. If a person is born not knowing its own existance its not going to have a child anyway. Even if the person could conceive, the kid would more probably than not be normal. You cant say people cant have kids if they run the risk of defects, and to say anyone is a drain on society makes you hitler spawn, end of discussion.

I'm also wondering how they got the Dalai Llama to take the test so they could get his score.

Economic Left/Right: -3.13

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -7.85

The questions might be skewed, and the Dalai Lama might not have answered the questions himself, but I agree with my score. (I'm in the same quadrant as Gandhi, and directly opposite Bush).  I think the important part is that the political spectrum isn't a straight line.  I've always considered myself "extremely liberal," but I've recently found that I agree with Ron Paul on quite a lot, and he's a libertarian (which we're taught is on the other side of the line).  The names and numbers might be a little off, but I think it's a good concept.

there is really no point in continuing to argue with you if you don't understand the usefulness of an extreme case to identify with which beliefs you believe in. This is especially true with eugenics. Its HYPOTHETICAL. You need something like this to be able to validate your beliefs.

You do realize that the biggest supporter of eugenics ever was Hitler, right? And, he most definitely qualifies as an evil prick. Just interested, but what did people have to say on the concept of buying and trading land?

Quote

"Historically, eugenics has been used as a justification for coercive state-sponsored discrimination and human rights violations, such as forced sterilization of persons who appear to have - or are claimed to have - genetic defects, the killing of the institutionalized and, in some cases, outright genocide of races perceived as inferior or undesireable."

Eugenics = Nazism.

Now fuck off!

Dude. Are you seriously retarded? Eugenics=Nazism is the exact same thing as saying Muslim=terrorist. they aren't the same fucking thing. Just b/c you can be ignorant and think the only possible application of such a concept is through Nazism, doesn't mean eugenics can't be controlled and used effectively. And your fucking quote doesn't support you either, "HISTORICALLY", yea no shit history has shown it that way because the only way its been used IN HISTORY is by evil bastards who believed entire races are inferior. HYPOTHETICALLY, the concept is valid. I mean Jesus christ you're killing me here.

They didnt, they just take the information they have about those people and their stance on many issues and do the test as the person would. Its bullshit, but its entertaining.

Economic Left/Right: 3.38

Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -0.21

meh that's about right for me. right on the line but more libertarian, very economically right, yea thats about right on for me.

i know. i saw that first question and was like what the fuck. there is no way this is going to spit out a valid response for what i am.

I want to say that I myself got on the liberal left side on the compass, but I would like to see what i get when I am older. Because someone once told me:

"Under 30 and not a liberal, no heart. Over 30 and a liberal, no brains"

..

um survival of the fittest has distorted so much in the last 150 years that i doubt anyone could really see who is most fit to reproduce.

Also, the weak don't just DIE, they play an important role in society, and prosper as much as the strong ones.

use your survival of the fittest model with animals, not cultured humans.
