Police shoot 6 rounds at unarmed teenager

It really does seem like a pretty messed up situation but you all need to realize that unfortunately nothing you think should/shouldn't have happened really matters. Most likely the officer will receive a paid leave for a couple weeks and be right back to work after it all settles down. This shit happens all of the time.

I don't care that the kid's dead, if you're crazy enough to steal your dads truck after he doesn't buy you smokes, you obviously aren't all there. It's just that six shots to get a 19 year old to stop is over excessive at the very least. The man behind the gun seems just as unstable as the 19 year old, to me at least.

Have you ever fired a gun? Do you have any idea how easy it is to squeeze off 6 shots? Especially if the cop is carrying something DA/SA. I'm guessing that in a situation like that, the cop's adrenaline kicked into overdrive and he didn't stop shooting until he knew for a fact that fuckwaffle wasn't moving AT ALL.

I would argue that he wasnt unarmed. He was under control of over two tons of speeding steel, and had great capability to kill innocent lives. Not saying he deserved to die, but damn people will jump to any conclusion the media wants.

You literally just describes a psychopath. I don't want someone like that, being payed to protect me or anyone else for that matter. They're trained to use their firearms properly, if they can't they should be doing the job.

I have to agree with this just because most people always say things like this to bash on police officers when in reality everyone would do the same exact thing

It doesn't matter they were advised to back off. It should have never gotten to the point they needed to shoot him.

The guy who was shot here. Clearly we have different views on humanity because I would never value the life a dog, or any animal, greater than that of a human.

He was 19. Goddamn, buy your own cigarettes you lazy bastard.Definitely not saying he deserved to be shot but this kid sounds ridiculous.

Wow that video wasn't bias at all, notice how no one else was that close to the house, or blasting music out of their car, or how the other people filming didn't get arrested. I'm sure the cops told him to not stand so close, and they shut down the street because there was an armed robbery going on. He was looking for trouble and if he stood back with everyone else this wouldn't have happened.

You really are a moron. The music was not coming from his car it was from the guys house who that video is from. He was not looking for trouble he was walking his dog, how can you say someone who was just filming the thing (maybe he knew the people being busted) was "looking for trouble" that's dumb as fuck!

Because it should have never come to the situation it did! They were told to stand down by dispatcher because of the possibly of more casualties. How do you not fucking understand that? Then he would of had time to cool down and then they could have arrested him.

Your missing my main point, that no one else was going with 5 ft of the cop cars. Notice how he was yelling at them then they walk over. they clearly blocked off the street and he was way to close. everyone else filming was father back and none of them had any trouble. he was waving a camera around at cops while standing way to close, if he stood back none of this would have happened.
Swat and police are waiting on people to come out of the house, when a guy pulls up to record the scene. you really think that's a good time to walk around and film shit stand back and let them do their job.

You need to learn how life works let a deranged driver speeding around a college campus ramming police? you think the police are going to back off and then he's going to drive the speed limit?

You don't know how to read, he wasn't speeding on the campus. He was speeding on the way to campus he left from his house.

Cool that doesn't change my argument, the grass and stuff he was running over looked like a college campus my point still stands.

this dad is gonna feel like shit for the rest of his life and this cop is gonna get a paid vacation

He could have turned the vehicle off, could have stopped when he was chased and he would still be alive. If cops are pointing a gun at you shut the fuck up and do as they say, just fucking cooperate, is it that fucking difficult? He fucking deserved it.

The dog owner failed to properly secure his dog. The police held off on shooting the dog until they were in eminent danger. Justified.

Yeah, it's hard to call the shooting police brutality after watching that video. Perhaps there could have been another way to bring an end to the rampage, but the officer didn't have time to consider the pros and cons of shooting or not shooting. Hindsight is always 20/20. At the time, there was no telling what could happen if the rampage continued. Indecision often gets people killed, so the officer had to make a decision fast. I doubt he really wanted to pump a 19 year old full of lead, but the kid was a serious danger to pedestrians in the area and the officers. Nonetheless, it's sad that the kid died. I don't think he wanted to hurt anyone. He just freaked the fuck out. I sympathize with the kid, the parents, and the officer who shot the kid. Shitty outcome for all parties involved.

As much as this is a fuck the police incident, the father somewhat deserved this by calling the fucking cops on his son

I didn't bother reading the full thread, but did anybody post the footage from the cops dash cam? My brother goes to Iowa State and just sent it to me yesterday. The cop was justified in firing rounds. The guy rammed police cars in an intent to cause harm, so he'd be able to get away. The officer was under investigation until that video was seen, at which point it was stated that what he did was justified. It was the first time in nearly 10 years this officer fired his weapon in the line of duty, it's not like he was trigger happy.

lets just line each of the cops next to each other and fucking shoot them in their heads AND FILM IT

AND SEND THE FILM TO THEIR FAMILIES

seems equal to me

No. If anything the kid deserved for being a spoiled bitch and freaking out because his dad wouldn't buy him cigs. The father did absolutely nothing wrong, the little fucker stole his vehicle. Saying the parent deserved to bury their son is absolutely fucked.

I just watched the dog video, again, justified. People rage because he shot a dog, that dog was lunging for an attack. I work at a veterinary hospital, and those dogs are frightening to even work on. Not because they're big, but because the breed is simply vicious. If there is one that gives us an issue putting a muzzle on, we wont even provide service for it, too much of a risk. If you watch the video he ends up firing the shots in mid lunge, where the dog was trying to attack people to defend his owner. People argue that he could have just tased the dog, which is all fine and dandy, but often times these animals don't respond like normal people would to being shocked. We use shock collars, and electric fences, that just make an animal calm down, whereas when people are stupid enough to try them on, its basically like a freakin taser.

Not saying police brutality doesn't exist, because it does. Just saying these aren't really examples of it...

i think its less that police are power hungry, and more that society has absolutely zero respect for others and law enforcement officers.

i dont condone killing him, but there seems to be a very simple solution here.

dont want to be shot by police? quit breaking the law asshole.

Okay granted dogs don't respond to electricity the same. Yet that is hard to believe a tazer meant to bring a full grown human being couldn't take down a dog. Not to mention they have pepper spray that is meant to fire like "bear pepper spray" in a stream and without a doubt it that would have stopped the dog. I'm not saying the officer shouldn't have defended himself. He 100% should have I just think there were other ways he could have handled that. You can reach for tazer/pepper spray in your belt just as fast as your gun. They're taught, shot to kill. If he thought a dog biting him could kill him them I am not sure. Nonetheless it is hard to say how anyone would have reacted unless you were in his shoes, even myself included, I just think if they're going to be armed with alternatives they should be used more efficiently.

Oh I completely agree with you on the fact society in General has become way more violent in the past couple decades and you could even blame some of the recent violence on how shitty our economy has been. And granted things like this wouldn't happen if people would just follow the law, but I do believe there have also been a lot more cases of police violence and questionable situations like this one!

As an Iowa State student, I hate that it had to end the way that it did but with these videos and a lot of conversations with other students...the cops had to stop it. The courts also ruled their actions "justified" recently so these arguments are essentially mute now

more people = more crime = more "questionable" situations like this one.

* for the record, i dont think its questionable at all....

i personally dont think there is an increase in cases of police officers firing firearms unjustifiably.

i just think with every tom, dick and harry who hates cops and has a cell phone, the ability for mass amounts of people to view these altercations via internet, social media, news outlets, etc etc etc has increased exponentially and thus created more awareness to these situations.

i would hate to be a cop.

i cant think of another job where youre fucked if you do and youre fucked if you dont.

what if this 19yo "kid" mowed down a couple college students? People would be screaming why didnt the police stop him?

so they stopped him before anyone gets hurt, and people are screaming why did they shoot him?

people with absolutely zero fuckin idea of what theyre talking about constantly critique your work because they think their money pays your salary.

everyone seems to have this fuck the police mentality, and in case nobodies noticed, it really doesn't help a fuckin thing.

Last 2 years Ive made over 10k scalping ISU tickets. Which means I have had to go to Ames.

Last year one game I had sold most of my tix early and made some friends to tailgate with prior to the Baylor game. I hadn't drank in a few weeks and blacked out hard since I had tons of jaeger and beers.

Make a long story short I got a public drunkeness arrest and spent the night in the drunk tank. It was a really nice drunk tank and I might have deserved it but most of the people in there were in there for bullshit.

But anyways ISU cops are scum because if you google my name immediately my mugshot from that arrest comes up. Why? I was released after 8 hours why the fuck should my mugshot be all over the internet?

Scum. We really have no rights in this bullshit police society. Any fucking retard who joines the military to fight for our freedom is just that, a fucking retard we have no freedom. (Normally I respect military but they are wasting their time police and corporations rule the world average people are worthless pieces of shit to the powers that be.)

Have you ever watch workds wildest police videos? That shit was fucking tame. Def. didnt deserve to get shot and anyone trying to justify the officers actions should reevaluate their thinking.

You can see he crashed into the cop car a 2nd time, then they fired immediately after the 2nd crash. If you don't want to get shot don't play bumper cars when police get out of their cars with their guns drawn.
