Police Radar

I know it seems like a dumb question but does a police radar gun work while the police car is driving. that doesnt make sense but i was pulled over by an officer that was driving towards me and said that the radar showed i was going 45. Now does that work or make sense. IT doesnt to me just thought what everyone else thought.

Its connected to his speedo. It just figures out how fast oyu are coming at him, subtracts the police cars speed, and bam, prints out your speed.

for lazer cops need to be stationary.

Ya radar guns are so quick and accurate these days they can get you coming at you, it's not hard at all. That's how I got pulled over a while ago, I was go 75 in a 55 haha. He let me off though.

i was going 55 in a 35 and passed a cop but I didnt know it was a cop and i saw him turn around in my rear view mirror and shit my pants so I went like 30 lol and then ilooked back again he was gone

So I guess they can I need to keep that in mind

Yeah they can do that. Couple weeks ago I was going 110 on a 80 road (km/h) but I was following a car infront of me doing that speed. The person in front got pulled over from a cop going the other direction on the two way road. I was so lucky lol

Ok, here's the real answer.

Yes they do work when the cop car is moving. The cop car is equiped with esentially two radars. The first radar shoots the target vehicle and obtains it's speed. Now obviously this isn't going to be accurate because if you're closing on the cop it's gonna be higher and if you're pulling away from the cop it'll read lower. This is where the second radar comes into play, it shoots the ground to the front of the cop car and obtains the cops cars speed. The radar unit will read out both the target vehicles closing/pulling away speed and the cop cars radar indicated speed, which the cop must check against his own speedometer. Then the radar unit calculates the figures and displays the target vehicle speed.

For example: You're driving 55 and closing on a cop who's driving 45. The radar would read your speed at 100. But the radar would take the cops speed of 45, and subtract it from the target speed of 100....to get your speed.

what i dont get are the angles. you would think different angles would make you register going faster or slower

Police can be radaring at all times, or not at all. I have a radar detector so i know if they are or not. So basically they can just have it on or they can choose to click the button to see how fast someone is going...for example if they are sitting around a corner..which is dangerous!!! That is why no one should speed regardless. But yes they can radar coming at you behind you and sitting.

The angles do mess up the readings slightly.........but, they'll only help the driver because they'll only give a slower reading then the car is actually going, not a faster one.

You say nobody should speed, yet you have a radar detector, which is 95% of the time purchased so you CAN speed...

contradictive..
