Poles

Up until a few days ago I've always thought skiers without poles looked daft af. However, I went to Calgary Olympic Park a couple of days ago and accidently forgot mine, so I rode the park for a day without them. And I gotta say, I've been turned. Everything just felt soooo much cleaner, and just more fun in general. I can hold my grabs for so much longer now.

I'm never gonna try and go full 'new wave/bunch' waving my arms around style but I'm definitely dropping the poles from now on. Anyone else have a similar or even opposite experience?

EDIT - 100% only park laps. Anywhere else on the mountain I pick them straight back up.

Okay so only 1 of those threads were similar to mine. Mine was mainly a personal experience.

The other 4 threads were questions entirely asking for opinions. Nice try tho

I spent the 2007 and 2008 seasons without poles and although it made learning new grabs a bit easier, I don't think I was skiing as well without them. When you've got poles in your hands it really trains you to avoid flailing your arms around so much, which I think is a positive thing.

That being said, there are some skiers who look super good without poles and you hardly notice. So I guess if your skiing is really clean then it's good but if you're totally wrapped up in your arms every time you do a 3 or a back 2 off, I'd probably recommend using the poles for a while longer until your discipline improves.
