Poles, or no Poles...?

I've watched hundreds of Ski-videos and I don't fkn know why, but I always find the shots without Poles look "a bit" steezier... no offend against Poles AT ALL! but I can't think of anything useful using Poles in the Park - beside People using them for "Balance". I learn all my stuff on the Trampoline and I don't use Poles there either. I think they would mess my jumpgame up...? And what is your opinion on Powder without Poles? I tried it and I found it so Fun! If Snowboarders don't need Poles, why do Skiers do then? We can take our Skis off way easier than a Snowboard...

MAY GOD HAVE MERCY ON THE COMMENT-SECTION!!!

have you ever poleplanted when spinning off a jump? I'm addicted to it, it feels so right

Dude.. creepy. I was thinking about this last night.

The only reason i use poles sometines is bc at my local we can drag down the T-bar with a pole. Because the park doesn't last the whole hill.

I think it helps when i'm hitting longer rails. We put up a 18 meter tube at my local and it helped a lot using poles.

Powder skiing witout poles can look very naked. But some makes it look way cool like Bdog and Maxi Smith, because they have the style for it. But if someone is hitting a Big mtn line then i think they should use poles. Mostly for safety reasons and it looks more appropriate.

Idk tho.

Park specific skiers can get away with not using poles. If you ski real mountains like Revelstoke, JHMR, Alta, ect without poles... You are a massive Jerry that doesn't really know how to ski.

I'd say it's all personal preference, what's comfortable and what's not. I've always skied with poles and it feels so awkward when I ski without them, like, what do I do with my hands? As for style, it all depends on the skier, some people like harlaut make no poles look so steezy and smooth and sometimes it looks whack, same for poles, some people make it look good and some don't

90% of the time you should have poles. Unless you are fucking around in the slush getting bunchy with the boy you gotta have the sticks.

I think you are confusing me for someone that gives a fuck what other people think bud!

I ski for fun. I'm having the most fun when I'm not breaking my thumb due to ski poles.

Each to their own, do what you feel like.

Fuck this I'll style turn wherever I want

do what you want and they both look sick but i dont see how people are okay with not being able to push with their poles, for speed and for lift lines and shit

Personally, i've used poles since learning how to ski years ago. Despite this however, the past two or so years I have ditched the poles and only use them about 10% of the time.

For me, I enjoy skiing so much more without poles (call it more freedom or whatever), but I feel as if I can focus on my turns and positioning much more (when skiing over the mountain - not in the park). With poles I'm quite good but since skiing without poles i've improved noticeably.

Its also alot more fun to hit natural features on the side of runs without poles.

If i know that it is going to be a powder day, or im going out skiing with a group who are doing big mountain/off piste - I'll ski with poles. Other than that, no poles all the way.

N.B. Skiing is all about fun - fuck what anyone else says, do what you want.

Yup

If you're skiing anything serious I'd say poles and poles that are the right length (90 degree elbow when held under the basket).

If you're in the park short poles or no poles, whatever feels right really.

I went on a trip to Andorra and forgot my poles and skied all holiday with no poles and the only time it. There's me was in steeper stuff/more 'big mountain' style skiing for balance and technique.

I love skiing no poles but in general use them because they make a big difference.

No poles is so much fun though so who cares. Mix n match or make your mind up on the day

When I broke my thumb on big mountain team back in the day i skied no poles for like 4 weeks and it really made my balance better

Yeah, I could say the same for when I started skiing without poles. My balance and really just overall co-ordination improved, which is why I expect they start all first time skiing kids without poles...

In any case I found that without poles, it forced me to learn how to 'manipulate' how I moved on skis. i.e. not having poles to push, turn etc on flat ground, I had to learn how to better shift weight, stop and 'walk/push' with skis.

i normally take off one ski while in lift line, and if there is a flat area you can just skate or whatever you call it.

and i tend to get more hurt using poles.

I find skiing without poles a lot more comfortable. It helps you become more balance on your skis IMO. And also when you're on the lift using your phone, shotgunning a beer, lighting a spliff whatever it's a lot easier without having poles under your ass.

I think some people use poles for style but I found they get in the way a lot so I have a pair of poles that are shorter and I use them when I do more all mountain stuff.

Until you fall in knee+ deep powder and don't have your poles to help you get back up...

Having poles in the park: meh I could take it or leave it

Having shitty short park poles with bad baskets on a tour: FML I'm getting real poles and never skiing without them.
