Poles or no poles...?

so i just searched for this thread and was surprised that i didnt find anything (please correct me if im wrong):

im wondering what everyone's opinion is on the debate between skiing with poles or skiing without. I was adamantly on the side of skiing with poles until i went out this afternoon without them. Its really a whole different style and feel for skiing but I definitely enjoyed it.

anyway, id love to know everyone's opinion on this; please no hate from either side because i know some people feel very strongly on this subject.

let the debate begin....

Is that even a question?

You could probably put this in NSG but you would be have been e-flamed hard.

well from that i cant even tell what ur answer is... so yes it is a question

also, i said no hate (hate gets -k) i just want to know what people think...

Did i put any hate in my comment?

Skiing with out poles defeats the purpose of being a skier. It may be kinda fun to mess around but if you do any real skiing aka backcountry having to skin without poles would suck massive black cock. So i think i made my answer clear enough.

I am not one to say this but Repost buddy

well you were the one to say it. . . .

anyhow,

no poles pros: hiking parks/rails/urban, more fingers to grab with, no poles to tangle with in air, less shit to carry/hold,snowballs.

cons: unable to push off with your poles, looking like a snowboarder, turning timing and balance suffers (if youre not an instructor or racer-trained), BC/skiing becomes almost impossible

i didnt say u put any hate in ur comment, u just suggested that i would if i had posted in in nsg.

thats all i was saying too, i have skied with poles for 8 years and loved it and decided to go out today for an hour and ski without them. it was great fun in the park and i never do any backcountry (because i ski in NH and we rarely get powder) but i can definitely see how they would be essential.

if this is a repost could u link me to the original for my own edification?

poles are definitely nice if you have to skin, but ive done a ton of backcountry skiing without poles, (i just keep a pair on my backpack for hiking) and i like it so much more, if you ever have to traverse something its a little bit of a pain, but its still soooooo much better than if your on a snowboard. ive basically given up poles in every aspect of skiing, and im enjoying every aspect of skiing a lot more because of it.

There are plenty of people who ski real mountains without poles. Its all about personal preference. If i go up one day and plan on filming alot ill skip poles but otherwise they are always in my hands

skiing with poles is like getting head from a guy, feels good at first but your still getting head from a guy.
WOW it works for anything!

talking to XtRemE11 is like getting head from a guy, feels good at first but your still getting head from a guy.

I prefer riding without poles the majority of the time, in and out of the park. I have pretty bad wrists and just have a preference riding pole-less since...Less chance to fuck em up again.

Searchbar'd no poles or poles and found nothing? I find thstnhard tp believe. This must be the 58357824 thread about poles...

Oh, yeah right, now im not gonna use my skis therefore i cant fuck em, and why not, my jacket, its not gonna get dirty.

I only like no poles if I am trying handplants or something like that. Everything else feels way to sketchy without poles IMO.

i would suggest poles, due to the fact that if you ride with out them, and throw down some shit, it looks alright. but add the fact that you have to watch out for your poles, it looks better, and adds dificulty. and learning tricks with out poles is a great way to learn but you wont get true cred, till you add them back in.

i rock poles when i ride but only cause ive always skiied with them. its just not the same without them. but jibbing with them can be a pain in the ass sometimes...

with or without, both are good. i ski without poles on select pow days or camera days or whenever i feel like it

I usually use poles. They definitely help with balance and for me to turn better. Plus you get around much quicker. For now i have to go no poles as i broke my wrist and cant hold onto the grip with my cast on and i feel so odd.

Which are listed on line's site as "Ski Poles", so your statement is wrong. You still ski with poles.

No poles is pretty fun at times, but poles FTW.

i had some cut down scott poles until i put them at the bottom of the lift to go a couple runs no poles and never saw them again. ive been going no poles for a while and its pretty fun. easier to grab and move around more freely. just sucks when you are trying to get to a run or on flat ground when u need to push

thats what i was gonna say!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"skiing with poles is kinda like giving two guys handjobs. It feels good to have something in your hands, but then you look down and realize you're holding two dicks." -Steve Stepp

"10 years from now now one will even know who Steve Stepp is, but 99.9% of skiers will still be skiing" with poles -Me

Hm. i use poles, and prefer them personally. I went awhile without them once, and while i didn't reallllly hate it that much, i just didn;t know what to do with my hands haha.
