Poles or no poles?

the pros and cons of poles:

pros:

you wont get stuck in lift lines and on flat (one of the many reasons we are better than boarders)

steezed out sick gnar gnar exetreme pole pass tricks

some would argue: more steeze

they can be used to beat the shit out of the ten year olds that just roll through the park, fucking up lips and landings

cons:

harder to bust sick two handed grabs

others might argue that you have less steeze if you use poles

feel free to add more, lets find out whats better

Fuck poles Im going with no poles. As soon as I dropped poles in the park I improved my style. But in powder there a must have.

Con-

follow caming with poles in ur hand is near impossible

Pro of no poles

filming is a lot easier and u have more steeze like berman does with his shirt flairing as he speeds past u filming Tanner Rainville.

its funny. now most people acecpt the fact that people ride w/o poles, but its only ok to do it in the park. if you go on a mougul or powder you have to have poles? that is non sense, no pole freeriding is where it is at

ill always be a pole man, just because i'm not terribly good at skiing and when thats the case, you gotta stick with whats comfortable.

there are very few that can make it look good and if u can i commend you....like i always said i dont think it is that bad...im not sure if i could ever ont use poles though...maybe for like 1 run or on a day i break a pole and the lifty tells me it is 2 or none.

skiing downhill w/out poles is easy... when kids learn young its easier for them to start w/out poles...thats how my dad taught me and my brothers and sisters... now when i ski with poles but when i ski with out them its really easy... but i went off a jump with out them last season and it was sooo werid...the balence was all off but im sure i could get used to it...... Con- Balence off jumps

not true, if u have grown up skiing with poles they help balnce soooooooooo much, and in the air is not difference.

But in truth no poles will never progress out of the park. In mouglas no poles just doesnt work, arms fail and u cant set up your turn.

In steeps poles must be there to set up your turn or u will fall or have the slopiest turns even

Plus to me they are just a comfort, i love having them, it feels wierd if im not holding them while skiing

also, it is soooo much fun to paint poles so ill always have my painted poles always when im skiing

^yeah knee deep pow on terrain thats not steep at all ...if skiers didnt need poles no one would have started to use them... show me someone do a mougal line or some steep, tecncal backcountry without poles. plus no poles steeze looks gay, i hate it might as well lose ur skis to and just be a fag skiboarder

and yes, some skiers still kill it without poles, but i still dont like the style and never will

if i don't have poles i eat shit, but it looks so freakin cool to double grab witout poles its nuts, if you can do it at all, learn to do it well

i may be imagineing but half the time when you're skiing pow on steeps your poles sink in to a point where they do nothing for you so without them you'd be fine. just one more thing to pick up when you yardsale.

when u are skiing real steep stuff your uphill pole helps you balance by having pressure on the snow, ur downhill pole plants and you body rotates around it as u do a hop turn... skiing way steep stuff without that ability would be beyond me

If you CAN ride the mountain without poles than more power to y' but... that shit is hard and pushin' on pow days is gonna happen, and Id hate to be on long traverse and miss out on freshies cuz i didnt have poles.

as malone said, theres times for poles and if you CAN ski good without them then there is time for no poles. the only thing about no poles is like the traverse thing... have fun without your poles.

I'm a fan of using poles. I used to be tottaly against non-poles but I'm starting to accept it, at least in the park. And to the guy who said it's stupid that people think it's only acceptable in the park here's why.

Skiing in the park isn't really skiing. I'll admit poles are pretty much pointless when all you're doing is grinding rails, jumping and doing little speed checks. When you're out skiing big lines and what not poles acctually help. They help you keep balanced and... well ya I think everyone knows.

I personnally don't think I'll ever convert to non-poles but I may be tempted to give it a shot in the park some day just so that my view isn't so biased

Well then go get a life you conservative asswhole. When the back nine mini golf invitational dvd comes out watch andy mahre get third place, skiing some of the most technical lines in whistler WITH OUT POLES. I have skid mineral basin in knee deep powder and crud on expert only terrain (more that black daimond) WITH OUT POLES. Not to mention learning how to cork spins, grab spins, do tail and nose presses, and learn how to not move my arms at all on a rail... WITH OUT POLES!! SO untill you try it or see dont talk shit.

Bah.... if you can't ski a line without poles then you can't ski a line at all. And who the fuck does hop turns? You take your poles and do some sick hop turns, and i will fly past you without mine in a nice fat gs turn. bah!

yeah u have to do jump turns when there is shit al over the place cause your skiing tecnical lines with rocks trees and shit all over the plcae where if u wreck you eat shit and have a chace of breaking yourself, and yes in deep pow pow you can turn without poles, but i dont get to ski way good pow pow all the time poles are NEEDED. NO ONE can do mougals without poles, and poles help you balance, and last of all

a skier without poles looks GAY

PLEASE LETS BECOME MORE AND MORE AND MORE LIKE SNOWBOARDERS TILL WE CAN TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SPORTS

yes twins came from snowboards and i love twins beyond all belife, but they advanced our sport, no poles just makes it easier to do a grab the you can do with poles anyways, not progressing our sport NOT PROGRESSING!!!

and yes i have skied no poles and it didnt help me grab cause ive learned how to grand and hold my pole so i dont need to drop my poles

also poles are the next level of tricks, poles behind the back, under the legs, idk even a toss or a spin

so basically, NO POLES DOES NOT HELP SKIING

woah your clever. And your just like some racist guy you hate no polers. Stop the denial and accept the fact that we are steezier than you. Also look up and realize theres absolutely nothing you can say to put me down as that I totally pwned what your were saying.

Over the summer i didnt use poles cause i found it easier to learn new spins with crazy grabs, but once you get it down, i say go with the poles, they might not have much purpose but without them your a snowblader with long blades

no poles is by far the gayest thing that has happend to skiing yet, i think it looks rediculous and i personally hate skiing without them, i dont see the point at all, having no poles does absolutly nothing where as poles do alot but whatever maybe you just want to be different

rediculously gay looking........

oh boy.... i will declare now that the lines skied without poles dont look as good as the ones with. its a different style of riding that pretty much noone is used to seeing. you dont worry about good form, and proper turns. you just do what it takes to shread down the hill.

but as for the guy saying that no poles doesnt help skiing. wait for ski porn. no poling helped me a lot...

chronic_F your signature is a little wrong...

Lyricson is from France! or maybe you were being sarcastic and im just dumb

are you stupid? since the dawn of time fools have been skiing with two long planks on their feet and POLES. why do u think poles started getting used in the first place? because they help balance and are good allround.

theres nothing wrong with trying to improve your steeze but do it for the right reasons. easier to do double grabs is bullshit, get better and manage your poles more. If you want to drop your poles to practice something or just jam out once in a while sure thats cool, but as a general thing we need poles

If we're all agreed that you need poles in the pow pow, then you need poles to ski. if you fools want to seperate park n urban riding from skiing then go learn to skateboard. Skiing with no poles is like skiing on shorter skis and calling them snowblades; its just as different from skiing.

guess what, rock or not, they called them wheels. they just made the rocks better. then didnt cut half the shit out of them and try to call a triangle a wheel

all no poles is saying that you dont have enough skill to grab with poles

n000bs start skiing with poles

im no n00b, my poles will always be with me
