Poles: new or old

how do you steal poles from your local mountain ? walk into the pro shop, slip a few pairs in your pants and walk out ?

no, he must be one of those assholes who ruins other peoples day by stealing their poles while they're going to the bathroom.

get a couple peices of re-bar from your local construction site. You'll never break 'em and you'll get pumped arms that chicks will go all moist for.

i couldn't read the whole thread....

so... I'm down with the old school, gaper poles. Those so called gaper-grip, the ones contoured to fit you hand are the greatest. If you cut the straps off your poles which most new school kids do, you will notice that you do'nt let go of your poles.

any one who has hiked for their pole knows not to drop you pole.

any one who has been in a large avalanche knows not to have you poles attached to your arm.

ooooohhhhh right this is ns sorry

who cares. don't bother buying anything expensive and steezy when it comes to poles...they'll just break sooner or later..

I ski on cheap as poles when I am in the Park...some scott aluminum poles that are all curvey and shit from me landing on them...but I will admit that when I ski big mountian or bumps I have a pair of Scott a-12 carbon poles...they are almost as stiff as aluminum, but won't bend (perminatly that is) and they are half the weight of the aluminum poles....I paid like 100 for them

i had these siiiick poles i found in the basement of the shop where i work, they had this dope argyle pattern on them, and the baskets were huge and they were clear plastic, and the grips were like bass boat color, you know sparkly silver and shit, with leather straps, ahhh i loved those, but they broke. now i have k2 6 speeds.

i used my dad's old kerma's back from the 70's. they had these big ass basket's. but now i have a pair of $10 salomon poles from sports authority and a pair of rental poles for back-up. just paint your poles. it is fun and they look good.

i take the rental poles that people leave strud about the hill when they go in to get something to eat. when they come back out and realize their poles are gone they go back into the rental place and get more. it is a win win situation for everybody, you get new poles and they get poles to ski with for the rest of the day. it isn't hard.

ive done that, at the end of the year when the snow is gone you walk under the chair lift and grap stuff that people have dropped

i use some old ass shiny blue kermas from like '76, i get lots of comments from people with brand new expensive ones saying they wish they had mine

ps they were 8 bucks on ebay

yeah i've definately rocked rental poles for the last couple of years. if i lose or break 'em i just go grab another pair. it's the way to go.

i used to use aluminum poles, but i was tired of breaking them when i was hitting a rail for the 1st time, and then having to use a stub on one hand for the rest of the session

mine were free because i bought the skis and the bindings

i just cover mine up with stickers to make it look better

is there a difference in poles anyway?
