Poles and hand drags

i enjoy using poles, i also enjoy hand dragging... i was wondering if most people put both of their poles in one hand and did their little tricks with the other or if they just found another way to do it... personally i put both in one hand, but i was wondering if there is a good way to do it the other way, just for those impulse moves... i tried once and it didnt turn out so sweet so i havent really tried again
 
If you have poles in your hand, you have to be going really fast, that way the hand drag is more of a drag than a push. I hurt my hand doing that. Because I lost my poles halfway through the season last year, I ended up skiing without poles quite a bit, and I really liked it. Poles are actually superfluous in the park.

and hand drags work better for me without poles, and i usually just drop them off at the top or bottom of the park if i want to do some drags. plus i agree that poles are unnecessary in the park.
 
I do concur with your position on the current issue, although I am somewhat conveluted about the issue at hand ( litteraly) it would indeed be quite frivelous to perform this feat with poles in hand.I beleive one must be surapticious and leave their poles in a latter position of the mountain, so as to regain them once the task is acomplished.

i find it necessary to stride forth with the argument pro-poles in the park (superb alliteration there). i tuck the handle of the pole into the base of my palm, leavin my four fingers available for dragging, as aforementioned, speed is your friend in this instance.

surreptitious refers to the stealth... there is nothing clandestine about a hand drag... everyone sees it. EVERYONE! Furthermore one must have the utmost respect for the trick or be broken off in the worst way. Frivolity therefore is not an option, commitment and honor must be carried throughout the trick, with a complete lack of care free self indulgence. A trick that could be describe as labyrinthine in nature, byzantine even such as the hand drag should only be attempted by those who make the arduous look rather accessible and asinine.

oh, and poles, no poles? doesnt matter.

 
I beleive u get an f for fail. as in you failed to understand how to read.

1.surreptitious refers to hiding your poles in the forest in a latter ( high ) area. it DOES NOT refer to the trick

2. performing a hand drag with poles would be frivolous because it is not as easy and smooth as without poles

3. your reading looks arduous
 
just dont use poles??? poles are dumb and annoying, drop the poles and handplants will be way more fun, so will all your skiing.

last season i saw some guys hiking a little qp and trying handplants, and they were hiking with their poles and then they would hold both in one hand and do their handplants, i just dont get it, really, why use poles if they do absolutely nothing at all other than just get in the way? they look dumb and look especially dumb when you have to put both in one hand anytime you wanna do a hand drag or handplant.
 
Stick the pole in your palm and hold it there with your thumb. Then drag two or four fingers depending on how much grip you need for a trick and how inverted you want to go.
 
for me, i can still do hand drags fine with poles. just have them like normal. make sure the strap is on and wrap it around a few times, and then just use your fingers on the drag while holding the pole kinda with your thumb

this thread certainly turned gay pretty quick.... cool guys, thanks for the input, i really really could have done without the diction off... cool i can use a thesaurus as well and have a pretty wide vocabulary... i usually save it for papers and intelligent conversations not shit about skiing hand drags... i bet you thought it was cool though, so glad you're having fun
 
oh my fucking god do u know how to read... i didnt say being surreptitious was hiding, I said you had to be surreptitious WHILE hidding your poles go back and read. im getting anoyed
 
to reply to your thread in a more normal way: I find hand drags are more fun without poles so hiding them somewhere is important. with poles every time i tried i got a finger banged up. sorry for the dick off
 
i havent tried any yet. they look really easy in edits and promos but im sure they are harder then they look. so whats the best way to do one?
 
aproach roller/hill/knoll/whatever

lean back on tails a bit

when you are about 2-3 feet from beginning of downward slope, pop, turn 90, stick hand out

the last 90 is the easiest part and will pretty much come naturally
 
i do them like this.

go pretty fast into the table of a jump/knoll/roller/whatever when im at the furthest distance i think i can clear at that speed i jump and kick my legs out in front of me getting my body parallel to the ground and drop a hand down to the snow. i drag my fingers and push off a little at the end to help get back to my feet
 
when I'm trying handdrags I normally just drop the poles for a run or two, maybe 3...maybe 5...

I like to be able to play around on skis without something that might injure me holding me back, except with butters I feel a little more balanced with poles but I'm getting over that.
 
excessive speed will contribute to the ease of "hand drags". cliff notes= the faster you go, the easier it is to throw your body outward
