Pole wrist straps

Normally when I ride, unless it's something really steep where I could completely lose track of my poles, I don't put my wrists through the straps, especially in the park and pipe. I've whacked myself pretty badly in the side because I couldn't toss them away before, so I just stopped, plus it's just alot quicker to hold them. Anyone else do this, or have reason not to do this?

i usually use them 24/7. but last weekend coming off a rail my pole stuck in the ground and i almost stabbed myself. so i think im gonna leave the straps off in the park from now on.

i think you can stab yourself just as easy with them off as with them on. i wear mine, makes a lot of things easier.

back in 01 i almost died in the park off this table....and since you asked, ill tell you the story...

Well it was a heatwave day in the midwest, and it had just snowed the day before, but this day it was 60 degrees out. Needless to say, by the afternoon there was a lot of slush. So being the dumbass that I was and still am, I planted my pole, just a little, off the take off and it stuck in as i left the lip. I stalled out 90 degrees and parallel to the ground. Luckily, parks back then sucked a lot more than today and it was a small hit, plus it was just slush.

Rock that shit

i never use my pole straps and i haven't had a problem with losin them yet. do what ever works best for you.

i cut off my pole straps, dont need em. the only thing they allow u to do is smash urself in the face if u bail bad

actually, they give you more control while your skiing....that is if any of you really know how to ski....hahah..jk..but they can help with control if you hold them right

yeah i use them when I push myselft around. I don't have to hold on as hard. Also I wave my arms around a lot when I fall so if I'm not wearing them my pole will sometimes end up like 20 feet away.

Coming Soon...

i wonder, i have broken 1 pole this season cuz i landed on it in the pipe, if i hadent been wearing straps, would it have comou out unbroken?`

Before anything else, make sure you know that this rail is your little bitch, and that you'll nail it

one of my friends, he 'did a candide' was his words, stuck his pole up the top of the lip as he was goin for a 7.. he spun about 90, and as he was coming back around, his pole, which had moved, but then planted back near to the position of the take off, then the top of it hit him in the mouth and 4 of his teeth fell out, he was fumbling for them in the snow. blood everywhere. he has since bolted them back in.

i don't wear pole straps in pipe or tables. i do on rails coz i usually fall back when i do a rail, so my writs/thumbs and pritty sweet.

Huhm, I guess I just never seem to let go of mine unless I'm just falling incredibly badly. I've done a couple nasty crashes involving flipping over and rolling and all sorts of shit and haven't let go of them, just instinct I guess.

an old racing trick... if you want to skate fast and strong, put your hands into the strap from the bottomso that the strap is around your wrist and your hand is above the top of the pole, and then put your hand down onto the pole so that the start of the strap is between your thumb and pointer-finger, and the loop of the strap is around the back of your palm. Kinda confusing explaination, but with this you have a lot more control of your poles, and therefore more balance.

when youre hiking ups its easier to carry your skis, and you can take your fingers out of your gloves and let your poles hang when your hands freeze.

i where em cus at the hills i ski at in michigan theres a lot of towrope serviced parks and i let my poles hang while i hold the rope, also easier hiking, and if u use em right they do give u more control
