I've heard people say 'pole planting off booters' and I'm pretty sure I know what it means, but someone tell me so I'm sure.

you DONT need to pole plant when you carve. i think it was jubtech that said todays shaped skis are designed so you dont need to ski with poles.

You don't have to pole plant when carving, and you for sure don't when jumping, in fact, that's something you don't want to do.

Do whatever is natural.

Oh and planting while downhilling is often completely unecessary. I tend to think the only time plants are needed is when skiing steeps where jump turns seem to be an essential skill.

Still a few pros pole plant, check out raps and thovexs' segments, youll see them pole plant occaisionally.

i dunno y but for me if i pole plant when doin a spin above 540 i keeps me more level in the air (keeps me from winding up and hucking i guess) but in 'The Game' raps pole plants b4 every jump

i think pole planting probably helps get a little momentum in one direction for spins and maybe even a little push off to flips too. just think about pushing off of ur pole u can get an easier start to a flip.

But it looks retarted.

i do it in moguls just to sort of help me lead into the next turn and sometimes in short radius turns but for carving i think im too close to the ground to plant and ive never tried it jumping....maybe i will

it gives some more balance in the air. it fucks up the jumps, its absolutely the most unneccesary thing in the world other than poles themselves. and it is derived from ballet skiing.

Yeah, Pole Platings retarded???!?! Fuck you, every fucking pro that's good does!! Jon does, I've seen Tanner plant, Johnson, Pujas, Fucking Everyone does it when they're going into a hard spin!! So fuck off, and stop dissing pole planting!!

Pole plants are not a necessity when carving on today's skis. Hell, poles are unnecessary with today's skis.

Telefreeride: big boards, free heels, no poles, all soul

You can tell by the pros who competed in freestyle(moguls) before they got into newschool, they are the ones who pole plant. YOu have to have a four point take off and a foru point landing in the moguls for comps. Plus it keeps you up right and you don't land back seat. My problem is I'm so used to doing it that why and I can't drop the habit for table tops. I would prefer not to pole plant on large tables(for spins) I don't do it on straight airs or flips. Kinda weird I guess.

pole planting is essential for a good skier. Whether ur in the backcountry or doin a misty 7. Just check out Olsson or any other decent skier and you'll see. Even Thorelli pole plants and u can't say he's bad. Seriously.

pole plant is important in carving for stabilizin the top of ur body something like this... and for rythm too it good

PAG

I only pole plant in bumps. I don't race bumps I'm accualy still learning but just the motion of a plant not nesisarily sticking your pole into the mogul helps keep your weight forward and helps me intiate short swing turns

I pole plant off jumps. it just feels better. although since people think it is suchataboo I am trying not to...

I think planting is very very important, but perhaps not in the park. It's definantely something that is more than necessary when skiing steeps...but I beleive it can be of use even on groomers. NOt racing though, don't see the need because it just takes time.

You don't really need to carve with poles but its really good for timing your turns. Back to the first post...You could plant right before a jump, mogul skiers do it, but it will most likely screw the hell out of you.

I do it too, sometimes... Depends on how much speed I have when I am hitting the lip...

How do you like the PE's???
