Pole Length

I bet this is exactly what you are looking for. ;)

Hi, the average male "pole" is 5.5- 6 inches. However, poles come in many sizes, shapes, and colors. Some are bent, and some have their basket removed. For usage, it really varies person to person. Some people like to dress their poles up in little costumes. Personally, i prefer my pole shorter than normal, bent like crazy, although i rarely ever use it, except for peeing in OP's mother's butt.

It's not how long your pole is, but how you swing it that counts.

For real though. Flip the pole upside down, and grab it directly under the basket. If the pole is the correct length your arm should have a 90 degree bend at the elbow when you're holding it. That is how shops determine pole length.

90 degree bend in arm with pole upside down and hand under the basket. That is a properly fitted pole, if you are in the backcountry or doing anything technical, it is smart to have it fitted properly because poles are meant as a stabilization and timing tool.

The best racers and progressing skiers will learn that skiing without poles with proper form and technique will make it much harder to ski and thus create and even better skier.

Shorter poles are really only smart if you are jibbin all the time and need some extra space. It makes sense if you are going big and are grabbing crazy shit, but otherwise it's better to have full length.

I rock a set of 50" poles. Why? Cause Im tall as fuck and when your touring its counter productive to be bending all the fuck over at the waist.

That sponsor thread was unoriginal horseshit. This however, this is gold.

depends on your main discipline of skiing:

Beginner: waist

Race: above belly button

general purpose: waist

Park: Hip or lower

moguls: hip

deep powder: wait to belly button

thats how I like to have my pole lengths

Okay well at the moment i'm not using any but i'm thinking of using them again. I'll have to cut them because couple years ago i bought the damn things up to my nips.
