I know a lot of you know how to do this already but I get asked quite frequently on and around the mountain how I cut my poles off. I got new poles and took pictures while cutting them down a tiny bit, here is how to do it!

first of all get your poles! I have next years Scott series 4

in snazzy green!

first thing to do is run the grip under hot hot hot water for a minute or 2. till there real hot and will slide off. you shouldn't have to try to hard it you have them warmed up enough!

pulling them apart is a no brainier so no pictures.

next is cutting the actual pole. josh at jibij uses a pipe cutter for this part. be being old school, i use a hack saw. measure out how much you want to take off and cut it off. and be careful, with brands such as Scott the pole does not go the full length of the grip, so keep that in mind while cutting the shaft.

after

you get the shaft cut off, you need to again warm the grip up.

make sure that you again get it nice and how. put it back on and line everything up how you want it!

after that you are set and ready to ride. you can see my newly cut poles and the scraps on the heel pieces of those bindings. if you cut off a lot of pole, keep the scraps. they make great tool to tweak out and or fix breaks on skis!

yeah i recently cut down my poles, except i made them way too short and they barely go above my knees

what kind of poles are those too?

i seriously appreciate this, because i have a pair of scott riots in a 48 inch (i am 5'7, so way big), and i need to cut em down, but the whole glue under the grip has scared me a bit.

good thread cause a few kids i have seen have fucked there poles up bad by cutting them way to short... if only read this thread

you can ask Josh, and Dan, and Landon, and Mike, and Jake. they were given to me wednesday at the Helly Hansen shop battle. Adam and Sam can vouch for that to.

since they bought oh lets see, your ARV's, ANT's, AR5's, THALLS, and hmmm...shall i continue? And then you turn around and sell them and make money off stuff your parents by for you and you steal...yeah i'm sure a rep gave them too you! since they're out and have been out.

haha, whatever you say man. and my ant's were my 18th birthday present. and i bought the ar5's. i paid my mom for the arv's after Christmas. but yes, you're correct. they did pay for the t-halls. i paid for the bindings though. and a lot of people don't know how to cut off their poles..

Jeff. you tell me i wont admit im wrong, but this time i think you need to. i got those poles legitimately. you can ask anyone who was there and they will tell you the same thing.

let it go.

BUMP. After you cut the pole and warm up the grip again and put it on, how will it still stick to the pole?

i just bought the junior version of those poles, so no cutting was necessary. and they were 30 bucks cheaper.

his is alot easyer then using a heat gun. im gonna go shorten my poles from 50in to 36 now

i cut down hundreds of poles every winter and have never had to heat up a grip i put it on the top of the door to my shop and pull down and they slide off, then i just turn it upside down and knock it on the ground and it slides on, cutting poles should take no more then 2 minutes. good post, its nice to see some informative things.

what i do is get ur poles, for me that would be a pair of sick stickz, then heat the grip, then buy armada interchangeable grips (which i already had) and put those on, easy no glue required.

another, ghettoer way to get the grips off is to use hair spray and a screwdriver...
seperate a lil bit of the grip from the pole, spray spray around, grip slides off...
cut poles accordingly...spray grips(inside) and pole shaft with said hair spray...slide back on...
giv it like 15-20 and those bitches are ready to go.

also, if you have one, a heating gun works the best out of them all.
