Pole baskets?

ok, what do they do? mine have broken off recently and management at certain areas dont like me skiing without baskets. but what are they there for in the first place? and why would any resort care enough to check if you have them or not?

They prevent the pole from penetrating more than 2-3 inches into a bystander's abdomen when you crash and your poles go flying.

they act much like your skis do by reducing the amount of pressure applied to the snow, so they wont go deep into the snow (look at how big powder baskets are for an idea of what size does) and also so it would like spear somebody.

probably not a concern to you. if you're riding park all day and don't pole plant. based on the fact that you don't know what they do, you probably don't need to care.

they come in handy when skiing the mountain.

you know, if all you jibbers are going to use poles that are way too short, and don't ever actually use them, why bother?

yeah exactly that, helps when youre planting to have the pole come out of the snow so you don't shear off the endI noticed that thall doesnt use baskets during pipe comps i wonder why not? so it doesn't catch or something? beats me? Basically like anything in skiing if you don't know and don't notice what it does you probably shouldn't worry about it

its a comfort thing, i just like the way it feels.

i have a little piece of a basket left on mine, and it does the job. theyre still bugging me about it though.

im still wondering why a resort would care about this. what does it matter to them?

lift line, and getting speed on catwalks and the like. mine are pretty short, but when i used regular length i kept losing baskets, it was terrible, i'd plant and my pole would go in like 3 feet

ya he's serious, just yesterday I was told not to use my poles since they didn't have any baskets, because apparently I could stab someone with them, since no basket would stop the pole from penetrating deeply into flesh....I think its stupid I liked my poles!

They're there to keep your poles from sinking into the ground when you push off or pole plant with your poles. People are probably worried for the beginners who can maybe hurt themselves if they don't have pole basket. Don't ask how, but people manage to do really stupid things.

they make it so your pole does not stick into the snow there for you pole will not simk and you can get more speed
