POC receptor bug?

Im looking into a new helmet because the one i have is to large, and i almost hurt my neck when the helmet came off my head in a bad landing and i landed on the edge of the helmet.
Ive heard lots of good stuff on this and i was really wondering if its possible to take the ear flaps off so i could use this as a summer mountain biking/longboarding helmet? My head measurement is 58 cm so i was wondering if i should get the large (fits 57-58 cm heads) or get the XL (fits 59-60 cm heads) and wear a skull cap underneath?
Thanks for reading and i hope you guys can help me out.

Everyone I know who wears one, including myself, has sized up with this helmet. I wear an XL and a Large in everything else, I highly recommend you try one on first. The ear pads do remove, and I think the helmet is essentially the same as their summer models as far as safety and fit goes.
I love mine, and I'm glad I went with POC. I'll have this helmet for a very long time.

I had a Giro until the beginning of the season when I picked up the POC Receptor. It's really comfortable and fits my goggles (crowbars obv) very well. The ears remove but be warned that it runs pretty small. I wore an L in Giro but an XL in the POC.

Comes in a nice bag, stickers, cleaning cloth. Quality.

If you have a decent sized head and wear a hat/ goggs under the helmet go with the XL. I got this because my other one didnt protect my head well enough and so far its been really good
