Hey,

Can someone PLEASE give me some tips and advice on how to improve these disgusting 3's I throw. I have seriously tried them over 40 times and everytime I eat it. I get to 180 and am facing the ground then when I spin the 360 I'm facing the air with my ski's vertical. I get off-axis but I don't want to. I've used the searchbar and tried people's tips but everytime the same thing happens. I've pasted 2 links to show u the problem. I know I suck so don't just rip into me, can u please give us some pointers. I've tried it that many times and just keep landing on my arse....

Thanks in advance.

a similair thing used to happen to me but id go off axis even earlier

my best advice to you is just 3 everything in sight, rollers, jumps, drops everything

and stay away from heavy back mounded skis, hope this helps

yeh man just lean forward more when your taking off...itll come and youll be doing them off everything, also try them on smaller jumps an rollers

Pop off the jump, throw your right shoulder to the left and let your momentum swing your core around. Spot the landing, stomp it, ski away and say baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmm

have forward pressure and dont look down until you are at like 270, your vision should be like above the lip of the jump.

also for a 3 you dont have to set the spin with your upper body you can kinda just float it out thats hard to explain but it will hurt you on big spins anyways do nevermind what i just typed

you need to keep pressure in the front of your boots all the way through the take off. In most cases the way you land reflects the way you took off so if you are landing real backseat you are taking off leaning way to far back. Also it sounds to me like you need to keep your eyes up. try those 2 things and i assure you you will be able to stomp them.

SPIN WITH YOUR SHOULDERS! That will help sooo much. set with your shoulders and not oyur arms, that will get your spin around. as for not corking, keep your weight forward when you pop, that will help you not cork out

start smaller.....

lean forward and use your shoulders

also, learning how to spin and grab on fruitboots increases your air sense by leaps and bounds

basically what everyone else said. stay forward. try to keep your arms out infront of you when your first doing it, so you get the feeling, then use them to grab or whatever once you get the rotation/axis movement down.

start small, on some rollers or something. punch over your left shoulder, and keep your arms out in front of you

make sure you have a lot of forward shin pressure when taking off of the jump, that will help a lot, and then pop off your toes super hard and then toss the 3.

I think someone said it already but start doing 3's off of everything, not just on skis, but when your walking around. It might look wierd but you'll get used to the feeling of spinning without tipping and it will be easier to transfer the feeling to skis.

Also in the first video it looked like you were trying for a grab (hard to tell). Its easier to learn the rotation without grabs and even without style at first (When I learned 3's they were all penciled). Once you get the rotation, you can start to have fun with it and make it look cool.

Good luck!

when your comin in to the jump feel your shins pushed against the tongues of your boots and pop more throwing with your shoulders and body rather than your arms, i used to have the same problem and that fixed it for me

do some straightaiirs on the jump and get a feeling of the tranny and then do a lofty 180 to get the feeling of spinning without pre-spinning and of the rotation. then hit the jump with lots of forward pressure and just spin normally with your legs tucked up and right when you start to see the knuckle lean forward and you should have it, try some 3's off small jumps in the pow and maybe some drops, i find it easier to spin off cliffs than off jumps, maybe just me though, i don't ski much park

sorry for the second post in a row. When i first started spinning i had the exact same problem right when you get to about 270 you drop your arms and it causes you land backseat

can you do a 3 on the ground, like just jumping and doing a 3 or do you get off axis? also try a cork 3 into the sand or the pool and if you land in a normal position it helps with your regular 3's because you lean forward more

Don't look down during your rotation, your rotation will follow where your eyes look. If you look down, it makes you duck your head, which makes you spin off axis. Don't look at the ground until you're at 270, then spot your landing, stomp it, and as you're riding away make sure to claim it by throwing a fist in the air and yelling that just happened. Hope this helps.

Get a good feel for poppin first. Just go on the jump and do some stright airs but pop really hard so that you are level in the air, dont just go off the jump. Really the entire concept of poppng is one of the most importnat parts of skiing i believe. Anyways what i usally do is as soon as i get to the top of the lift i look at the landing for a spilt secound that usally helps me keep my head level so i spin on axis, also it gives me a good idea of about how long ill be in the air. When i am in the air i spin 100% with my shoulders and head (more with my head) so that my head is leading than my body, that helped me the most probelly. Than its just a matter of knowing where you are in the air, around 270 ill spot my landing and depending on how much airtime i have left ill bring the last 90 degrees. Also like people said just randomly spin around your house, trampolines help alot to.

dude, just get a comfortable stance when your on the lip, when you take off just pop off the lip a little and stay forward on your skis.. not too far though.. it's really easy once you get the hang of it

i gave you some mad karma for a solid dilemma, you're in the right direction of learning, i can't say anything more than what's already said other than to keep forward pressure on you're boots throughout the spin...you will get it.

when you start the spin you want to rotate your upper body but keep it level. but when you throw it you're throwing your right arm upwards not level. and when you're at 180 look back uphill to where you droped in from.

It looked like your trying to do a grab in the first one. dont try a grab till you comfertable with the spin. Before you do it on skis get used to doing it on the ground alot, i MEAN ALOT. just get realllllllly comfertable with 3s

its because you are scared and you bail halfway through. you open up and just lean back which is pretty much my normal way of bailing also. just commit to it. look over your shoulder and try to spot the landing.

reach down for a safety grab and that should keep you level I used to do the same thing when I first started riding park, then on day I was like hey maybe If I go for a grab it will keep me stable...try and see

Like people have already said, if you lean forward more on your take off, that will help, also if you extend your legs a tiny bit later you will have more control, and also for me, I find that I can lean forward a bit in the air sometimes, so my skis are parallel to the transition before I land.

Ok, well, here is my advice:

1.

When you are coming into the jump, dont get into "gorilla steeze" (which means bending over all steezy like). Yea, you may see good skiers do this, but it takes some getting used to. Stand up straight and tall when coming into the jump, with your knees maybe bent ever so slightly.

2.

Don't try steezy 3's at first. Stand straight up and just do a pencil steeze 3 (like mogul skiers do) to get used to the rotation. Don't try bringing your knees up. Then once you can do those easy, move on to trying grabs and bringing in steeze.

3.

Can you do 180's easily? Once you got 180s down, just spin a little quicker off the jump and you got yourself a 3.

4.

Don't start spinning to early, you have to be patient and wait till you are off the lip of the jump (it looks like you are being patient, just keep that in mind though always)

try it on a smaller jump with no kick to it (like a roll in the hill or a drop off) that way you wont get that kick feeling, then when you get used to that it'll be easier on the bigger jumps, just make sure to keep forward pressure then you'll get it no problem.

Haha, so true... I'm a good skier but I definitely was not born to ski park, I have the air sense of a whale with Down Syndrome. Can't do laid out backflips on trampolines, can't do 7s on trampolines, can't do good corks on trampolines, and I have tried endlessly for days on end to do all of them. Nevertheless I'm gonna push a lot this year in the park and maybe something will come of it.

lean foward, get a good pop off the lip, make sure to always stay tucked until you bring it around cause you were opening your body at about 180. if you do this you should be fine

Don't think too hard or get worked up about it. Go at the lip and have a little bit of a wedge and throw your arms right and follow your arms with your head and look over you shoulder. The landing will come into sight and you'll land and be like, wait what? AWESOME! Just at home practice on the regular ground what I just told you and you'll get used to the motion.

Guys,

You've exceeded my expectations with these responses.....absolute champions! I'll take all the comments on board and test them out in Japan (going there in Jan/Feb.....yeow!).

Thanks all for the advice

dont ever look down unless its the landing at the end. when you turn around look at the jump.

keep your hands in front of you. no matter what.

dont spin with your arms. spin with your whole body at the same time. and no arm wind -ups either.

do all that along with a lot of this other shit, and youll be money.

K now can u guys help me out with something. i can do 3's 5's and 7's but i cant put grabs in them. everytime i try it messes up my spins or i loose my center of balance. which grab is the easiest i can try with spins and what should i do to keep my center of balance?

Pop off of your toes, look over your shoulder, dont huck it too hard, just look for your landing and try to keep a tight core (abs, pretty much everything you do in the are depends on your abs, the more in shape your core is the easier this will be for your body).

Just practice alot
