Hey, so I have a Dell Inspiron 1520, I've had it for like a year almost now, and have had almost no problems with it... so today i restart it cause my internet wasn't working then nothing would come up after the loading screen except a documents thing... thats how im still typing on it... but like i have no desktop or icons or taskbar and havent been able to get them back... anyone know whats going on/what i should do? thanks a lot.

Most likely your boot.ini file may be corrupt what that is, is the code microsoft will boot from. What you may try doing is using a program called BartPE and use this to explore your hard drive and find the boot.ini file and make sure this is all right look al this up online to find step by step instructions

what are you talking about dude. his explorer didn't start up apparently (no icons or taskbar = no explorer). this has happened on my computer before, all you have to do is ctrl alt delete, click on processes tab, then file > new task. type in explorer.exe and hit ok and bam theres your taskbar and desktop back.

oh, and yeah all you have to do is restart to fix it, but you can do what i said without restarting.

^holy shit dude, i definately did not think that was going to work cause restarting it didnt work either... thanks a tonne man, you saved me a lot of time

Same thing happened to a kid in my suite. He had that same model computer too. System restore and recovery wouldn't work. So he had to take it to the schools computer department, they had to erase his whole computer. Other option could be take it to Best Buy's geek squad.
