Playing Snow Golf

Hi there,

I think most of us should be able to make our own mind up about wearing a helmet or not, but I have friends who always bang on at me for not wearing one. I was playing golf with one of these yesterday and he nearly got hit in the head with a golf ball. I said jokingly he needs to wear a helmet as it was such a dangerous sport and he was like "don't be so ridiculous, nobody wears helmets for golf".

I cant see the reason on why he is so concerned about wearing a helmet snowboarding yet would never consider one for golf which I'd imagine is actually more dangerous than snowboarding (I have certainly come a lot closer to getting hit in the head than when I am skiing)

Any snowheads out there who golf and religiously wear a helmet? why for one and not the other?

Head injuries per year

Skiing/ snowboarding- 16,948

Golf- 10,035

Interesting list. Shows way more incidence of head injuries in basketball and soccer though. That's where I've experienced the most dingers.

Golf is pretty dangerous. I used to work on a course and had a few close calls. Got hit by a drive right in the cheek one time. That one could have easily been a concussion if it hit my head someplace else.

My understanding of physics is why I wear a helmet for biking and skiing and not for golf. Kinetic energy is affected by both mass and speed so there is a lot more energy in the situation when I am moving fast. If I am moving 20 miles per hour the kinetic energy is 28 times that of a golf ball traveling 150 miles per hour. More energy increases the chance of a catastrophic injury.

yeah golf is dangerous d00d rip in pieces to everybody who lost their life to the sport.

#GIP (golf in peace)
