Dells resort will offer year-round skiing, water parks

The never-ending race to be the biggest and the boldest tourist attraction in the Wisconsin Dells just got a new entrant.

The $57 million, 13-acre resort proposed by Joshua Schultz of dRMR Development of Lake Mills would be the "next generation of resorts, " Schultz said.

It would offer year-round skiing as well as indoor and outdoor waterparks, restaurants, a BMX/skateboard facility, retail stores, a spa, a convention center, an arcade and a condominium hotel.

Under the 120-foot-high ski hill would be the world 's largest indoor water slide, and an outdoor water park would have the world 's largest outdoor slide. The water park also will have several wave pools for surfing.

The project presented to the Wisconsin Dells Plan Commission this week is called the Wedge Adventure Resort and is planned for Grand Cambrian Drive off Highway 16 on the southeast side of the city.

The development group includes Dieter Sturm, who does special effects and snowmaking for movies, and Martin Greenberg, an expert in sports facility management. Sturm markets Snowflex, an artificial surface for ski hills and snowboarding that will be used at the resort in the Dells. Sturm provided the snow for scenes in "Public Enemies, " the Johnny Depp movie filmed in the area this year.

The resort estimates it will hire 258 full-time employees and 110 part-time workers.

were supposed to get an indoor ski area in georgia and one in north carolina. It takes too long to build. I dont care if they build one here, cause by the time its built, ill be living in colorado. but at least this one seems possible.

Hate tp be a buzz kill but ive also heard plans for these in atl and ny. And this does not mean its going to happen. Alot of times companies put things like this out on the internet to see if there will be interest. Being a midwesterner I hope this happens but I wouldnt get your hopes up.

yea but you dont no the dells the resorts up there are allways competing to be the best and i guess this is the next step

so many of these are on the planning books .. sign of the times and a really good thing for the sport.

hooray! more useless energy consumption for the sake of consumerism. its a double edge sword really. consumerism is good, energy is good. but using consumers to support energy that isnt sustainable is stupid.
could say the same about xanadu as well. the only real effort they made was to use high efficient lighting and low flow toilets. they arent even trying. i think it puts a horrible persona on the ski industry.
i wouldnt support the idea of the wisconsin area, and i dont support xanadu.

its snowflex, and i doubt it will happen, and i live in wisconsin. hate to poo poo it but whatever is whatever.

okay im confused....i used to live in peewaulkee and there was snow every day from mid nov to april but your putting in a ski hill with fke snow?

^eh the dells are trying to squeeze as many attractions to attract people to their already crowded hotels

looks like theyre already finished making the actual dome part of the ski dome in jersey nd now i think theyre working on the interior, i passed it a few days ago coming back from the airport
