The mayan calandar is based on some pretty intense astrological calculations and is based on real cosmic events over a rediculous period of time, though youre probably right about it not having an effect on this planet. I'm not big into astrology.

Significant events tend to happen on significant days because, i think, the people who recognize those days as significant make big plans for them. But it isn't due to the stars/numerology itself.
