I'm taking a year off after highschool and I wana go somewhere for a year to just ski and work a little and ya know. Where is somewhere that has lots of powder but still a decent park, lots of different terrain, and is accomodation isnt gonna leave me broke?

or some bumfuck place in cali around a decent mountain.then theres always middle states like utah montana and such with little towns around big ski hills that are pretty cheap.

But canada is always a good choice

im from ontario. i went out to whistler couple years ago, and i have been all over the east coast but whistler i just didnt want to leave cus it was so much bigger and better out of the park. i would love to go back to whistler but its so expensive and i know itsa not the only resort that im gonna love the skiing so where is somewhere cheaper?. lots of snow, no ice, lots of trees, cliffs, powder, and a sick park? any resorts pop into mind that fit this description?

follow the dream don't let anybody talk you out of it. College has fucked me over big time, got me into alot of trouble and debt. I wanted to take a year off to had it all planned out but then i fell to the pressures and expectations of my parents and society. I was basically bribed into not taking a year off by my dad, and it was a perfect example of choosing money over happiness.

utah man cant believe no one has said this yet, but yet slc baby or cottonwood for sure man you got pc canyons brighton the bird alta solitude all within close proximity of each other and you can find some roomates and live cheap for awhile man.

me n my buddy were thinkn bout taking a trailer even, drive cross country hittin up all the skate parks, mountain bike trails and just whatever fun stuff we can find. Then park it at a camp ground that closed for the winter just pay the owner like 500$ for like october to may maybe. Utah have any campgrounds near the ski resorts and any suggested videos on newschoolers that show some skiing in utah?

shitty plan you'll freeze to death with the heaters in most campers and their lack of good insulation and the camp grounds water, sewer, electricty will all be shut off.

Get a appt, get a job (preferable afternoon shift) and work and ski.

My friends older brother rents a house and then sublets room to fellow ski bums and lives in a sick pad with a bunch of good guys works afternoons at a local ems and shreds all the time. been doing it for years now.

But you live next to this:

that sounds sick but how much is rent? and is it safe to put a small woodstove in a trailer? still can get electricity and for water i guess just buy it and for bathroom/shower get a local gym membership?

yea man check out the rgionals forum for utah i think someone is renting out a room for 50 bucks a month or something cheap like that just get a job few days a week man its way easy just do it super easy. try to get a job at a resort doing whatever just to get a pass, pc or canyons if you like park bird alta or brighton if you like natural shit but brighton if you like a little of both, good luck man.

i've said it before and i'll say it again.

if you are looking for lots of job opportunities, low cost of living, and super easy access to deep powder, gnarly terrain inbounds and out, and awesome park, utah is easily the best choice.

don't believe all the shit talking about how "lame" it is here. i moved out for the same reason a few years ago and love it. even now that i can't ski cause i blew out my knee in dec. i still really enjoy living in slc.

I'm sure SLC is awesome terrain wise, but Canada has free health care. Good luck when your knee blows out in Utah with your night shift job at mcdonalds.

so get a job where you have insurance. i did, saved my ass when my knee went. i don't have to pay nearly anything for the operation.

It's pretty hard to find a job with insurance that you would only work at night so you can ski all day, but yea your right it can be done. Your still going to be poor as shit either way
