Pivot Heels

Dont make fun of me for this, but what is the point of pivot heels? Ive been thinking about it a lot and i cant figure out what purpose they serve.

like the turntable style heels? they are the safest binding out there basically, the heel will come off in all sorts of weird situations and directions that a normal heel wont, thus saving your knees, and they hardly ever pre-release because of how the heel and arms apply pressure to your boot, as well as a better energy transfer from boot to ski edge because of how the arms are angled, and they have a very small mounting footprint letting the ski flex more naturally like it was intended.

do they rossignol power 140s/look p14s work just as well?
i have these on some old skis and i'm not sure if i want to mount them on my future suspects.

sry for the thread jack

You know how your toe piece allows your foot to twist out when excess pressure is supplied?

It basically means that your heel can do the same, reducing risk of knee damage and other issues. They are worth the extra money for sure

they help relieve pressure on your knees if you crash and can deffinitly help from tearing acl's and such, defs worth the extra money

do the pivots that aren't fks style have the narrow screw patterns like the fks style ones?

Actually, I think the pivot is there so the TOE releases smoother. It allows the back to stay fixed and rotate so the toe slides out smooth. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think there's a single binding on the market yet that allows the heel to release laterally. I think the last binding to attempt it was the line reactor, and everyone knows how that thing turned out. Bomber bindings nonetheless.

The reactor was ahead of its time. I respect line because they're always trying new things. The reactor was a terrific idea. It failed, but we need more companies trying new stuff out. And I'm not questioning the pivot. If you ski hard enough to need the din offered by the rossi fks or look p series bindings, then there's no better options.

yeah it's similar.
I have a pair of p14s that are probably not going to be used that I might be willing to let go if the price was right.

The pivot heel is designed more or less to no release. The rotating heel gives you that little extra moment to correct your mistake before it ejects. You have to keep in mind fks is a race binding. The common misconception is that the heel will release laterally which is totally wrong.
