Hey NS'ers,

My boss wants to send me up to Pittsfield for work. (I was looking at the map, and I'm about 3hr30min from Stowe/Sugar/Bolton.) Anyone know anything about Pittsfield, and the surrounding area? Basically trying to decide if I should move to work there. It would be a baller promotion, and I could use it. (Plus I hate Washington DC.) What say you NS?

There are a few mountains close by. Bousquet is in Pittsfield but Butternut is like 20 mins away and has a good park. Also mount snow is around an hour away.

Only thing is pittsfield is like the middle of nowheresville. We used to go up there in HS for cross country skiing. The exit of the mass pike is like 30 miles from the next exit

Thanks for the input guys. Yea I'll be making a decision around Sep/Oct. So it should be a good time of year to be there with the season upcoming.

i live right near there. pittsfield is a small city, with a relatively high crime rate. there are some very very nice neighborhoods, some middle class neighborhoods, and some ghetto neighborhoods. pittsfield has improved vastly during the last decade. starting in the spring and ending in the fall, there's an event called third thursday. every third thursday of the month there is a huge festival, where all the restaurants serve food outside, all the shops have great sales, and all types of fun family-oriented activities. there are some great restaurants in pittsfield. bousquet is located in pittsfield. its a small cheap little ski area that is fun to go to. butternut is about 20 minutes south, and is considered to have the best park in the area. about 25 minutes north is jiminy peak, which is the biggest ski area in southern new england. jiminy is pretty expensive, but still a decent mountain with nice amenities. mount snow and stratton are an hour north, killington is about an hour and a half. pittsfield and the surrounding area is generally pretty boring, but there are some great outdoor activities and the berkshires as a whole is an incredibly scenic place. let me know if you have any more questions
