Pipe skis

If you were to buy skis purely for pipe, would you want really short ones or your normal size? I remember i saw dave crighton at the vt open a few years ago and it seemed like he had tiny ass skis. Im not about to go buy a pair of skis just for pipe i was just curious.

i dont htink you would really want to switch ski lengths for pipe, i think it would screw me up at least

i would think you'd use a slightly longer ski and you would regularly use. have them mounted a little in front of the suggested point because you want more nose for pipe.

didn't dumont say before x games last year that he went up a size before the pipe comp and that's how he was boosting so high?

get the cr labs or the thalls...the dimensions r for pipe. Or use your skis, just wax em up and sharpen the edges that makes a HUGE difference.

so what would be the ideal pipe ski? Simon seems to boost way out with the foil, which is a fairly stiff and wide all mtn ski. does stiffness help you boost? and in response to using t halls in the pipe i dont see how a ski with detuned edges could be any good in an icy pipe.

Well Jon rocked the Mad_trix and they were stiff as shit, but now I hear they softened them up a bit, so I dont know

I would go with a ski that is about as tall as you. Simon rocked the 181 foils in the x games pipe comp. You said you saw dave crichton with short skis a few years ago. The sport progresses every and we learn new things. Don't get tiny skis.

I guess it depends on your style. If you want to go huge, you'll need skis that are long (like your normal size) and stiff. Long, stiff skis will help to keep your speed up and transfer energy from wall to wall. If you're the kinda guy who wants the big spins without going 16+ feet out, then you could go a little shorter and a little softer.

Years ago, I think salomon made special 1080's with wood cores for guys riding pipe to help keep their speed up.

TM's have awesome flex points for the pipe. It's no wonder why the dynastar team rocks in the pipe. Even though they ride their pro models, they're still pretty similar.

I'm not sure but I've heard they're all the same ski with different graphics. Can anyone clarify this?
