PIPE CLEANER VS. AR6

yeah racing base and stiffer for the pipe cleaner..as JP Auclair says in the product video "Its kind of like a deluxe version of the AR6"however people seem to find the AR6 more versatile all mountain
 
i own pipecleaners and i've skied ar6s, and pipecleaners are lighter and stiffer, and have a softer base, and the model (06-07) i own has skinnier edges too i think.

if you want to hit a lot of rails, go for the ar6. the pipecleaner carves amazingly and definitely holds its own all over the mountain, but isn't really much of a step above the ar6
 
False bro, you can literally push a fingernail into the PC bases with little effort. They are really soft.
 
no not false. they have a fast race base, which is harder than a conventional base to better retain wax and have less drag. that's why their bases are so hard to repair. ptex doesn't want to stick to it.
 
dude, trust me, i own the pipecleaners, and my brother owns ar6s from the same year, 06-07

my brother's bases are wayy harder than mine. it's true, i think i can fingernail my bases. the ar6 base performs better if the skis aren't tuned all the time, but the pipecleaner has the potential for better performance if it's tuned consistently and isn't messed up on jibs.

alright guys. according to the Armada sales rep as well as anyone else who works for Armada with whom i've spoken, the pipe cleaner has a graphite based race base. this base is, believe it or not, harder than a conventional base. that's why graphite bases are faster, because they're harder. that's also why they are so difficult to repair and don't retain the wax as well. if the bases are truly softer, than Armada is lying and not using the graphite based race base they advertise. but according to them, the base is indeed harder on the pipe cleaner than it is on the ar6.
 
well i dunno about the new skis, but the 06-07 skis definitely have a soft p-tex base.

no graphite to be found as far as i know.
