Pink Names: 'Hot,' 'Skilled,' or 'Hot and Skilled?'

That was an interesting read.... I have so many different thoughts on this subject, a lot which seem to contradict each other, annoyingly.

I personally think the whole female side of free skiing is kind of fucked...

I'd be interested to see if any blue names actually read it and have something valid and interesting to say.

INb4 "get back in the kitchen".

The part where they talk about "she's hot, she rips" but points out how we don't learn their back story yada yada.... That isn't because it's about a woman. That's all I could tell you about Tom Wallisch, Shaun White, etc. They're good, do I know/care anything about the rest of their life? Nope, don't really care. It could be interesting, but whatever

And I wish more women chose to express themselves more "physically" than "visually", but I really don't think that appeals to most women like the select few, awesome women. Where men generally see excitement and thrill, most women I know see "danger". And you can't just persuade someone to change the way their mind functions

I met a girl in a bar and we talked about going to keystone the next day, saw her hitting jumps..nothing special but hitting them, I couldn't talk to her in fear of confusing myself, love a girl who loves that sort of excitement and has confidence

tits or gtfo

Also I'm not sure I agree with the whole, if you're a girl and good at something you have to brag, it's not like guys are doing that(well the ones that are are the annoying ones). It may be harder to get noticed as a girl for your abilities, but that should just make it all the more satisfying when you do.

That was a good read. I think it all relates to the music industry in which the successful females are successful because they have a beautiful body or face and people just exploit that rather than the talent. People care about looks always have always will but it's getting even worse now with nudity and exploiting women. The sports industry as a whole adopted it from mainstream entertainment. Then there is people like Adele who have incredible passion and talent that burst into the scene just because of that.

Anyways that's what I related the article to, it made sense to me.

I haven't read it yet but I bet you she's just restating what every female action sports athlete with a shred of intelligence has already pointed out... many times before.

fuck yea

Kinda. Except she does say " If you’re comfortable as a sex symbol, go for it."

I fux with that

*too

Not a feminist...i'm scared of most of them. Thought it was interesting, and again I don't necessarily agree with all of it.

standard good advice for anyone. Keep leading by example and things will change. Do one sexy photoshoot or put on make up for a shot and you've lost it all

Come on its related.

IF you are a female action sports athlete and don't have the looks to take near nude sexually suggestive pictures your career isn't going anywhere and you won't get any attention.

Shame on all the women athletes for continuing this trend. It would set a good example if some attractive women who were stars of their sport refused to do this but they are almost all basically sheep and I guess have the innate desire to prove to everyone they are hot...(like they didn't know it already.)

I would not want to be known for my looks if I was a lady looking for respect in something like action sports. But since athletes are entertainers and young female entertainers must be sex symbols in order to get the desired exposure girls who achieve fame have an inferiority complex which requires them to do near nude photo shoots bordering soft core porn.

And its probably not the girls faults they probably need to do it for their sponsors so I am not calling out any athlete specifically.

*Whoever wants to call me gay or whatever don't bother if I want to see hot chicks naked porno is only a click away. When it comes to women I respect for their athletic accomplishments I want to respect them purely on merit and not how they look. And the prevalence of these pictures means that looks end up mattering more. And apart from the girl who I am hooking up with I don't really care how other women in society look, if I can't bang them they might as well be jaba the hut for all I care.

Seriously though a womans looks only matter to me if I am interested in her romantically other than that who cares what a girl looks like I don't care what guys look like do I?

I didn't read what you posted because I've got this hot fucking girl on FB chat right now but dude... you should really consider taking your own life.

^ but in that sense you aren't really a true feminist as you only look at one side of the puzzle, real feminists (I say real because they are hard to find) want equality for men and women and fight for rights on both sides.

Have you not seen the threads ripping on other pros who are ugly as fuck? Insert any joke about shaun white right now. I think it goes both ways and the problem in my mind is that women don't get respect because they can't keep up, it has nothing to do with them looking hot as most athletes are objectified in the first place (no one cares what michael phelps does out of swimming, he's just a figure).

If it is all about how good you are and not about gender why the fuck would you ever watch a female skier throwing penciled nines over someone doing double cork nines with a blunt grab or some shit. That's simply why there is no respect, I can see how there is respect in a "holy shit she is facing her fears" kind of way, but does it really go past that?

I don't. Thats the point. Im not that into action sports as a "fan" I respect it and all but I rely on team sports (basketball and football) to earn a living. Only so many hours in the day. But I like them and respect them and support the cream of the crop making a living and getting sponsorships at it. If your female your path to success in the sports world and level of endorsements is way higher if you can take near nude bikini pics well.

The only female action sports athletes I ever see are the surfer chicks (who I can't name) or Lindsay Vonn. Why? Looks.

I can't name that really good womens basketball player off the top of my head who Don Imus insulted. But she's awesome and I think was a #1 overall pick in the WNBA. I like her and hate the fact that Candice Parker is elevated above her due to looks.

Etc etc.

Ahahhahahahahahhaha.

Total lie. There is no way a woman was talking to you then, you wanted to post your usual 'kill yourself' bullshit, you KNOW you are a complete and total bitch, and you are so pathetic you have to make that up.

Here let me try being you....

'OK, I gotta go man I got 5 supermodels waiting for me to have a wild orgy I don't have any time to wish death on a stranger over the web but Im gonna do so anyways.'

Believe me?

Incorrect, case in point: Kelly Clark. She looks like Gimli's cousin. If you're super talented you will succeed no matter what you look like. The sad fact is that half of the "success" as a female athlete in our industry equates to ad space, and that's where you run into sub par, but hot, athletes like Sierra Quitiquit and Caroline Gleich.

Spot on examples! So many wannabe ski chicks that are nothing special talent wise getting athlete attention when they should just be getting hot bimbo attention. Give the athlete attention to the Ingrid's Sarah's and Kelli Clark's of the world.

I think the attitude matters, too. I have friends who rip, and aren't worried about their looks, but their attitude keeps them from making it anywhere when it comes to sponsorship or ski industry successes... whatever that is, to them.

I'm just saying, if you're good at skiing AND you're flaunting your hotness, your career has twice the chance of going somewhere. So why wouldn't you?

Because flaunting yourself makes it more difficult for women who are talented but not hot to get the attention they deserve. So if you are concerned about other women finding success you should turn down the half nude photo shoot, but if your main objective is self preservation (and why wouldnt it be?), dump 'em out.

Its actually not too far from the very basics of debate between democrats and republicans. Use myself to help those around me, or use those around me to help myself?

Nothing super intriguing written there, but all valid points. Anyways the thing that I thought was funny was how she quickly adds in justification to herself for buying a brazilian bikini haha "And the last time I bought a Brazilian-cut, up-the-butt bathing suit, it was because I liked the color. "

She also didnt use her body to try to advance her career. She easily could have, but (to me at at least) she was so committed to skiing and trying to advance it, her amazing looks were well behind what she did for halfpipe. Unlike the Sierra's and Carolines where the focus seems to be on modeling with a minor in skiing.

She did an FHM shoot. Those pictures were like the most posted female skier pictures on here ever. How do you figure she didn't use her body to advance her career?

It's hard to begrudge her or anyone else that. If you've got an asset like that, good for you, you shouldn't have to hide that you're attractive. If Sierra Quitiquit happens to be a model who likes skiing, that's badass, hot girls who like skiing are a good thing.

The basic argument here is whether or not sex actually sells in this circumstance. I.e., Molly Baker is saying that having a hot chick on your team isn't going to sell your product to guys because they're not buying the women's product anyway, and girls don't base their purchasing decisions on that. So the whole rationale is broken.

I'm not convinced either is accurate. Consciously or not, this kind of advertising does compel female consumers to purchase products. And having an ad that causes some guy to turn his head and look for a few seconds is already a win even if he's not going to buy the actual prodcut you're advertising, as long as he sees the company logo. Brand recognition, yo.

"I have so many different thoughts on this subject, a lot which seem to contradict each other, annoyingly."

If you're really good at a sport, especially an 'extreme' sport like skiing, chances are you are extremely confident. Which is attractive.

If you're really good at a sport, chances are you're in good shape, chances are you have a nice body. Which is attractive.

If you're really good at a sport, chances are you're passionate about it, which is also attractive.

I don't think female athletes are going out of their way to be super sexy, they just are, and people notice it and obviously like it.

i never get all the way through threads any more because i read something like this and HAVE to quote reply cause im losing it.

I dont like watching females skiing, or surfing, or snowboarding etc. becasue they will never be as fun to watch as the men. But, if i have to endure a female segment, id rather them be really smoking hot but suck, than some "talented" girl.

ahahahhaa

one time i went to her parents restaurant at mount snow and i asked for ranch dressing and her mom told me this wasnt mcdonalds

fuck her
