That's cool man, buy online and don't support local shops. I guess we'll see if Jibij throws an event in MN this year. Oh yeah and when all the local shops go out of business because you searched the web for the lowest price, you can drive to CO to get your skis mounted, waxed and tuned. FUCK online!

I also would like to add that it doesn't even matter that you buy your gear at Pinewski's, I don't get paid to say "buy at Pinewski's." I would rather see you walk into Joe's Ski Shop or Hi Tempo and buy a pair of skis, rather than buy online. Look at rollerblading for example, it's practically dead. You have to call E-rolling two hours in advance if you want to go visit their shop so someone can be there to open the door. Some kid was almost in tears the other day when he stepped in Pinewski's because he hadn't been in a shop that sold aggressive inline skates in five years. He didn't think they existed anymore. A place where you can try stuff on before you buy it. That's ridiculous. Keep this online shit up and you won't have a ski shop to go visit at all. You can just sit at home, your fat skiing ass in the chair and click to buy your skis. Real fuckin' cool.

im sorry guys, bottom line is money is money. Ill by outerware and other gear from shops, but when its the difference in saving 250 bones as it was in my case, even if its 50, ill buy my sticks from where ever its cheaper.

This is Mikey T from Pinewski's. I am using this account to let all of you online buying folks know what the real deal is. First of all, if you are going to "debate" any issue, proper grammar and spelling is a must for anyone to be taken seriously. So, since you are so keen on using the computer for your purchasing, for your sake, please learn how to use spell check.

Let me give you a little lesson pertaining to online vs. brick and mortar. The Internet has been a curse and blessing for all local shops. I've been involved in this industry for 20 years, and I've been part of the Pine family for over 10. During this time I have seen ski/snowboard shops rise and fall. Yet we still grew. As the Internet and online buying blew up and completely fucked up the market, we still grew.

"The bottom line" is not money my friend. The bottom line is much more complex, so try to follow along. Have you ever rode a line, or rode powder so intense that the only way to express how you felt is by using body language and human interaction to convey that same feeling? Have you ever been out skiing and had an issue with your skis not performing the way you want them too, and you are so damn frustrated that you want to give up? Have you ever been on a trip that had so many memories that the only people that would truly understand the importance of every memory are those that have experienced it time and time again? Have you ever met a man that has put his family through hell and dedicated his life to an industry that we take for granted? If you cannot answer a confident yes to any of those questions, then you belong where you are. Nothing more than a sales order number and a statistic to the online industry.

Local shops know people by first names and greet them as friends. We know who is getting married and who is having kids. We know who got wrecked on trips and in comps. We know who is moving up in the levels of competition and support them in any way we can.

The truth is, if the industry loses it's human interaction, then there will be no industry left. So keep buying online, keep contributing to companies that could care less about how your last trip was, or if your new gear is working well for you. Keep contributing to those faceless, mindless, emotionless companies that tag the customer number to you and only care if your credit card goes through.

So, when you finally reach Wizard Level on Dragons and Goblins or what ever the newest video game is, when you’re done searching for free porn, when you’re done looking for any deal that an Internet site will whore out, then stop in here. We'll greet you as a friend, fix those skis that aren't performing for you, share our stories about powder and perfect lines, and introduce you to a man that respects every part of an industry that he has supported for over 20 years. You can meet Dan, a man that gives respect to an industry that has given the same respect back to him for keeping the local business alive.

Cheers,

Mikey T

I agree with your word up supporting local skiing, and all but you picked the wrong person to attack, Josh is a good friend of mine and there's no reason to attack Jibij, heck he's even more dedicated to freeskiing in general, than your shop, (not a personal attack or anything), but saying Jibij is not good for skiing or even local skiing is the wrong thing to say, Jibij supports the core company's so that they can grow, in some cases builds the brand image, He buys in bulk movies, skis from company's like Surface, High Society. Jibij is absolutely the wrong person to compare against, he's out working so that smaller companies stay in Business and i bet is making the same amount of sales as Pine does, even with online sales.

I do however agree that shopping locally is good for things like that but here in the Milwaukee area, even if i needed to buy skis, the money wouldn't be helping freeskiing at all, it goes to Snowboarding and expanding Les Moises' snowboard comps and so that they can have a SNWB team.

If i lived closer to the cities the story would probably be different but for now I'll continue to support the companies supporting me at the moment.

YES BP!!! I guess the mentality of shops in MN is completley different than in the 414. Thats all gonna change soon enough though.

ahah progression in Milwaukee wont help, the only core shop is The Board Shop, and they do the right thing, up here in the City though nothing will progress in the time that we are here!

You are right, we did drop Line skis for the last two seasons. We were first to carry them when they debuted, but because their QC was so bad at one point it was necessary to drop them to see if they were going to pick their game up. They did now that they are manufactured and owned by K2. So, we will have Line skis again.

Sorry Bp, I think you missed the entire point. However, you are right that I used Jibij as an example when I generalized all online buying. I should have used an example such as getboards or something. I did not negatively attack Jibij though, at least they have a physical store. If I lived in Boulder, CO they might even be my ski shop of choice. If Jibij is the scene that you want to support, than that is your choice. It was merely an effort to educate everyone that it just isn't about money. That is the most arrogant thing someone can say.

Pinewskis is sick, the people there is the best thing about the shop. Everyone in there is so nice and happy to see you. I've never been content sittin in a store for two or more hours just sittin and talking to everyone that works in there. Pinewskis even has a revrend working there, you don't get that online. How many online shops do you know that have someone working there that can marry you?

Pinewskis can't sell you all your stuff for next to nothing like getboards can but they try their best to fit you with something that you can afford and that don't sell you crap stuff. I'm not saying that i haven't bought online, but i think for the most part it was a jacket straight from oakley and bindings that pine didn't have in stock and kyle couldn't get me an order form from Doug in time to get the bindings for my trip.

So it's worth the extra 50 dollars that you would pay for shipping anyways to go in and chill with a bunch of cool people and get hooked up with sick gear.

i live in plymouth and mainly go to sportshut

anybody know how long the drive to pinewskis from plymouth is?... i tried to check on mapquest but it wouldnt work

half hour, and thats with traffic, i go wakeboarding on medicine lake in plymouth and live right by the shop and it usually takes me 20min.

yeah man you gunna have product loyalty?

Although I wish I found a company that I extremely liked but Im still workin on it

i was just there today and saw all the skis in the back room - everything looks sweet and the prices aren't too bad...

True that. Jibij is one of the best retailers in the freeski industry. They even "spawnsored" me as part of their Midwest team last year... (i think im the only one) Josh Bryant is one of the coolest guys Ive met as far as shop owners, and is always trying to hook up good deals to us poor folk. I stopped into the Boiulder shop and it is also really sweet. We chilled there for like 2 hours and Ty got a helmet for a pretty good price using his amazing lowballing skills. Pinewskis, instead of bashing people who say "money talks" (because it talks to me much more loudly over supporting local), why dont you start an online shop? Why dont you start a bigger team and update them on NS (cough cough jibij updates)? If i owned/operated a ski shop, I would focus much more into online promotion and hype all over the US that just your local area. Money talks.

For Sure Josh is really nice and soo helpful, whenever i got ski issues in CO i go to josh and he hooks it up, the new shop is sick I stopped by in June while he was setting up, he's growing and thats great.

well shit, get yourself an online store already and some team updates... you can cover from here to colorado.

That says a lot about you man. Trying to get the lowest price because your only concern is yourself, money talks for you, in it for anyone that will sponsor you, et cetera. What you don't understand is that it is the locals that keep you in business in the end. Locals because they are loyal... you are the type of person that would buy only at the cheapest price. You've made that obvious. There is a name for people like that, they call them "tools." You also have missed the point my friend.

Pinewski's Team as of 7-23-07

4. Cody Thornberg-MN 763

5. Luke Hanson-MN 763

6. Calvin Henrickson-MN 763

7. Steve Janisch-MN nomad

Brought to you by the online "hype'' and stupid NS updates...

I see both sides of this whole thing, the problem is, things are changing. I can first hand say Pinewskis is an AMAZING SHOP, when i went into their shop last year not knowing anyone in the MN freestyle ski scene looks for new skis, they did more than help me find skis. They were nice, introduced themselves, and most of all, when i thought the price for the AR5s was a bit to high for me, they offered to price matched a price i found online. Now, I'm not saying to be a good shop they need to have low prices, I'm saying that to be a good shop, you have to have personality. I have incredible amounts of respect for a shop like pine that can stay open and buzzing in such a web based world. As hard as it is to hear though, I think an online shop is the only way to stay alive in the coming years. The fact that you don't have to rent out retail space and pay for as many employees (as sad as it is....) cuts costs almost in half. Now, being able to have a, yes, ill throw this word out there, core, shop that everyone local knows about, and an online shop would not only boost sales, the ability to throw events, and have a bigger and better team, would as jibij has shown, be a very good investment. I'm not taking sides here, just saying, that you can get the best of both worlds, and its just a click away (i actaully just said that.) And hearing from the grape vine, i think things are looking up.

You can lead a horse to water... but you can't make him drink. What has been said illustrates the standpoint of "real" local ski shops. Nothin' more said could change your mind, everyone will just have to wait and see. Experience it for yourself. There really isn't any need to continue bashing because that wasn't the intent of the thread. Afterall, as a family we are interested in skiing and creating comeback customers. If you want to be taken care of (price and everythin), I know of one place you can go to every time... Pinewski's.

haha i was looking into calling you guys to order some TNKs from you bc its a decent price for a friend of mine, but you totally just lost my business.

I don't think Pine really had your business man. You are sponsored by Jibij. Why would you buy equipment at Pine? I'd recommend Marquette's shop, they do a pretty good job there and throw a killer Super Park every year. Plus you live in Marquette, right? Give back to the community you ski in... I am sure Marquette's got some twintips left over from last season that you could talk them down in price. Otherwise, that is the price they will be until the season starts again, so if money talks they will be sale for $275.
