Pieps Freeride?

I was just wondering if anyone has had the chance to use this beacon. I was considering getting it as my first beacon just because of the price or do you think for someone as inexperienced as me with avy gear it would be wise to buck up and get a three antenna? Any feedback would be appreciated, I've been able to find very few real life reviews about it online.

I'm interested in beacons too. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to get the ones we can get from back country access, just because there simplicity. I'm pretty sure the easier it is to use one the better, but power and stuff also has to be an issue. are you coming to montana this winter again?

O.K. rule number one in buying a Beacon is never ever try and save money. a beacon is by far the most important thing you will carry with you in the backcountry. if you dont have very much experience in the backcountry id would say a BCA Tracker no doubt. But if you were looking at a more proffesionall beacon look at the Barryvox. it has all the bells and whistles. plus it has PULSE and can seperate signals on a multi burial situation. I personally would not use a pieps freeride because there has to be a reason they are so cheap, i use a Ortovox because i have alot of experience with it and know how it reacts to certian situations. if you get a beacon make sure its the right one. and you cant just wear a beacon and be safe you have to practice practice practice and make sure the people your giong with know how to use thier beacon or else your dead.

P.S. take an avalanche class because they can teach you. and the trackers have plenty of power unless your doing like 3-4 days in high risk zones and always have it on.

dont do it. ive been watching this beacon for a while and was pretty excited about it, but now that it's out, i wont be getting one. basically, it will keep you safe, as will all beacons (unless you really try to save money and buy some super old one that isn't on the right frequency... but if you do that, you probably arent contributing much to society anyways). the difference is in its searching ability and that is where it really lacks. if you care about your friends, get a different beacon (by the way, the BCA tracker isnt 3 antennae, it's 2; the tracker 2, which isnt out quite yet, will have 3). the tracker is a really good, not too expensive and light beacon though. personally, I think Ive got it narrowed down to the Pulse or S1 but havent been able to decide for a really long time. just make sure you can use whatever you get. and read the snow/listen to reports; you can die in the avalanche itself, even if you get dug out within a minute, if your head is facing the other direction, you're pretty screwed.

Can we get Backcountry Access through the shop? Liberty Mountain only has pieps and I'm too poor for their nice one... I talked to holty and he didn't think we could get BA stuff but he said we could try to open an account with the if we wanted...

I have a barryvox and have used an ortovox, they are both pretty easy to use and find people fast!

But definitely don't cheap out on a transciever because if your friend is buried and you can't find him or find him soon enough, you gonna feel pretty shitty.
