Thats an entertaining movie right there. QUALITY over QUANTITY.
Pushing the cinematography side of things to a new level. To sum it up: A tight roster of very progressive snow riders filmed in hi-def with dolly / boom / helicopter & or remote cable cam shots throughout the ENTIRE movie.
Minuses: very urban heavy, lots of Extreme wide angle, and some short short rider parts.
Plusses: non-stop perspectives of action that have not really been used before in snowsport movies, smooth flow, GREAT LIGHTING: I.E. night time powder slashes, colored-gel lit nightpipe, etc., and not to mention some very creative types of "jibbing" and absolute bangers. Soundtrack + a great vibe.
Is this the future of videos? Probably in many ways- digital is taking over, and "in motion" shooting perspectives is bringing this stuff to another level. But, I think it can be limiting in the way that it involves a lot of setup to shoot. Everything has to be calculated to get those shots, and that may take away from some of the rawness and spontaneity in snowboard/ski filming. It also can limit most shooting to a more urban location for obvious reasons, and probably restricts the amount of actual shots you can get in a season (both seemed apparent in the movie). Either way, IMPRESSIVE effort by MDP. Watch this movie!
