Thanks for helping to further devalue the work of every photographer that spends thousands of there own money to help further our sport, and support the athletes.

You should really be paying for a cover photo.

Seriously, I doubt that you would work for free, so why expect photographers to work for free?
 
Man, you got it all worng, he is working for free to make this movie, remember? And what if up and coming photogs want a bit of regonition, this is the perfect oppertunity for them!

This is an amazing opportunity for a skier/photog to get their name out to the market.
You are also supporting NS, so what's your problem man? You don't think people should support a cause that has helped us all out so much? Ten you are a bit of a dick, and aren't a true ''NSer'' in my mind.

Grow up and put forward our photos so we can give you props, which is what i've put mine in for. I don't give a shit about money, but I would kill to have my photo on the front of an NS movie. Imagine being able to say that... It's be amazing.

Please don't hate on this project man, dave has put a lot of time in to this, for little or no return, and i for one will be supporting him by buying the final product and supporting the sponsors that helped make this possible.
 
Last time i checked it was going to be free, But maybe there could be a way we could make a donation for proceeds towards the next one?

kill to have your photo on the front of the NS movie? it is not the cover of Powder,

imagine being able to say your photo got on the cover? bragging rights never paid rent.

This could get you the confidence you need with your photography, understand that you can get somewhere with it (not me or you directly) and will push them with their creativity/dream. that is not stupid is it?

Someone that hates on an NS community style project is a joker man, so in essence, hating on this project is like hating on NS, can you see that angle?

The killing thing was kinda exaggerated, however it would be pretty cool to know that your shot was up on an NS movie, or maybe you would just think of it as another day? Personally, i think it'd be a pretty cool thing for a kid to be able to say.

Bragging never pays rent, but getting the drive to follow a photog career or whatever could eventually pay the bills.

Fo someone that is on NS a fair amount you seem a little down on this man. No hate at all, just trying to hype things up from my end, and I am kinda behind dave and the effort he's putting in for this.

Your right I must be a fool to stay in this industry shooting skiing as long as I have.Trust me, giving your photos and video away for free is no opportunity for the photographer / filmer.... the only opportunity that it creates is for the vultures in this industry to continue to feed and profit off of the very ones working there ass off to help promote our sports and the athletes.Trust me you will never ever get anything from giving your images away. You wont even get respect for it. All that will happen is that more and more people will expect you to give them your work for free, and since they got it from you for free, they will expect everyone else to give them photos or video for free too. All that this is doing is making it even harder for the working pros to break even on there costs to create stoke for you. Trust me, if a video is worth the time to produce, or the photos worth publishing, then the creator deserves to get paid at least something to justify there time and the cost of there gear.

there are a couple that may be a little sicker shots, but the big mountains aren't gonna be very fitting for the movie i dont think
plus this would commemorate hoot.

Man, i totally agree with you and suffer the same problems with every aspect of photography, from landscape to portraits it's a hard industry. i also know the costs involved, I am currently running about $6g wort of equipment, and will be workign hard to get that back again this year.

I am not trying to say, yeah give your shit away for free to everyone that asks for it. But to me, NS has done a lot for all of us, the ski community, progression and expansion, and it giving back to them for that.

Think abut porn sites, you have to pay to use them, probably get less updates than you do here, have far less content than NS and other shit like that, and you can't have nearly as much fun as you do on NS. (this ^ is a kinda joke)

Seriously though, I don't give my shots away for free to even mates, and haven't put my best stuff up, however this is one of those situations where giving back and supporting NS comes before profit, surely you can reason at that?

I respect you and your point man, but I think you have to just take a step back and realise you are being a little OTT about the money grabbing attitude in this thread.
 
i agree with you on the photos. for video, this is supposed to be for amateurs, there are prizes, and it's a good oportunity for some unknown skiers to get some exposure, and could help on the road to sponsorship. as for filming, most of these people just make edits that are posted in the video section anyway, so why not enter them for a chance at some swag. but you are right, to simply donate the photos just isn't fair to the photogs, they should at least turn it into an amateur photo contest as opposed to a giveaway.
 
I'm stoked for all of you out there trying to make it as a ski photographer, but understand that a lot of people on this site would gladly donate any picture they had for a chance for it to be on the NS movie.

I do understand that it's not easy to be a ski photographer, but i don't think this is the place to apply if your looking to get paid, let alone well.
 
Okay, you are completely missing the point of this whole thing. This is supposed to be a video made for the people of NS, by the people of NS. If you want to be a sellout then go ahead. If you really think that your work is soooo special that it deserves thousands of dollars than you really don't belong then you really don't understand the point of newschoolers at all.

I'm not hating on you, just trying to get you to see it a different way.

Its not about the money, I hope you can realize that.
 
If anyone wants to use this for the cover design a cover contest then it's cool with me, i've already had a few PMs and have an idea myself but don't have the time to do it, so if you have sometime then go for it. Also, you may or may not prefer this shot.

To me it sounded like they needed pictures for the cover.... like a collage.

Is this true or are you going for 1 cover shot?
