Pick my skis for me...

So after about an hour or more at sierra snowboard and learning everything I ever needed to know about skis from Taylor the ski god i need to pick some skis.

I'm 6'2" about 190 like to ski pow, trees, warp speed on groomers. I also like a little bit lighter ski that i can butter with and just mess arround all over the place. About 70/30 all mtn/park. No rails.

I'm stuck between the arv 185, the msp 180 the scratch BC 178 and the seth 179.

I'm leaning towards the armadas just because i'd prefer to support a smaller company but when it comes down to it i'll buy the best ski for me.

too big and stiff. I was going to go with the 185 arv's because they were a lot softer and lighter. They would ski like a shorter ski.

i say 180 msp. i'm a little shorter and a little lighter than you, but thats what i was on all last year. they are a good medium flex, not super soft, but not so stiff you cant play around on em either. plenty of width for skiing soft snow, and responsive enough to ski trees too. i really like mine a lot.

too soft? I like to ollie and play arround but i want to feel stable when i'm charging steep stuff and in the trees.

i would compair them to last years scratch model, but i could be wrong, are you ordering on line? because go to the shop and give them a flex

i'm buying from sierra snowboard a shop in sacramento. I flexed the arv's but it was hard to get a feel for them.

I skied the MSP's and the ARV's last year at the Squaw on snow demo and between the two I liked the ARV better. The MSP is the dullest ski I''ve ever been on. It has no pop and the ARV rides very simular. I think since you ride more all mountain than anything I'd go with the Scratch. I don't know a lot about the Seth Vicious. The Pistol was really soft but I think the Visious is stiffer and it has a progressive sidecut for longer radius turns.

hey at 6'2 anything under 180cm is getting a little short, unless u like landing on yr ass.

ARV 185 sounds about the best I'd say.

How about Mad Trix 181, heavy mothers

because the ARV is a sick all around ski and it holds its own pretty well carving at high speeds also

not that much chatter except on hard ice

even though it's as soft as a noodle it doesn't have too much chatter when you're flying through crud or chopped up pow? I'm just worried aobut it getting pushed arround.

yeah the arv is fat enough for the bc, but not too fat to take everywhere else. it's a perfect size for you and you said you wanted to sport armadas anywho.

4skizzle, I am almost the same height as you and same weight.

The ARV is too soft, it is a good size but if you are wanting alot of speed and to stomp cliffs it is not the ski. It was a noodle for me.

The MSP I don't know about.

The Scratch I never liked, there was something about it. It felt not very stable when rippin' and was not good for switch pow stuff

I (personally) would choose the Seth. It is a solid ski that charges hard but still can take it into the park (it is ok with the 189, but really riding BC is what it is all about)

So there ya go

DUDE.... I am 6'1 205. I ski last years Armada ARV 185... best ski I have every owned. The topsheet gets beaten up a bit, but the flex is soft yet perfect and they are burly enough to plow through anything.\

big wide turns.. gets through crud, stiff enough to charge steeps and chutes,

they are what you want.. trust me

i was worried they would be to soft to charge fast stuff. I dont' want to get a ton of chatter and get bounced all arround. How are they in big chopped up bowls? I want them to be able to plow through stuff but be flexy and have a lot of pop also.

I don't ski in the park.. I freeski. if you stay on top of the middle of the ski when charging, and not lean back too much, then they hold strong through crud.

Hey 4sizzle...thanks for helping me out earlier...I know everyone has opinions...but I would not go below a 185 if I were you for an all mountain ski and I would not go below a 180 for a park ski if I was your size...this whole movement to really short skis has gotten out of hand....people are getting the wrong impression...back in the day you would be on like a 195 at your size...so go shorter than that...a 177 is for someone about 25 lbs lighter than you...all don't get a soft ski...I am not sure why there is a movement to soft skis...especially if you are going to ski it fast...The Prophet 100 is a good stiff ski...the Mojo 90 is a great ski..the Mantra's are unbelievable...and I will tell you how the MSP is after I ski it...the BC's are a little soft in the tail...and I don't know anyting about the ARV...you want to buy a ski that is going to push you to become better as the season goes on...get something that will challenge you...Prophet 100's in 186 would be the choice for you
