i shoot with a range of cameras (all canon).

so far i've shot with the Rebel XT, 20D, and the 1D Mark II, as well as a smorgasbord of lenses; 28-90mm, 35-135mm (old lens), 70-300mm (crappy black one), 70-200mm L series, 35mm wide angle, and the 45mm and 90mm tilt-shift lenses.

the Mark II and 70-200mm L series is by far the most prime setup that i've worked with.
 
too many to list. i actually broke a Tiffen Soft/FX #3 filter last week when i was trying to thread it on the lens. that was a $70 screwup.

i also have a Pentax MX manual camera with a 50mm and a 105mm macro lens. i use that for b/w stuff

I also have two canon film cameras lying around. canon 300 and canon 500 i think.
 
and it protects the lens...for the most part thats why u get a UV filter

I have two cameras... Nikon D70 (digital) and a Nikon N60 (film) each with tamron variable lenses and an electronic flash...(the second one in that big set of photos about 2-3 posts above)
 
i usually shoot full manual. i like having control over how your shots look; all that preset crap isn't for me.
 
Canon Digital Rebel is a very affordable EOS camera.

My sister just got the 6.3 MP version, and I must say it is awesome.
 
i have the same camera and i love it, i shoot almost everything with that camera

and i've got a pentax k1000, holga 120s, mamiya 645e, polaroid 600 + polaroid sx-70, nikon 5400, hasselblad 500cm..
 
fuck no, i won't shoot digital, i have a nikon F4 with a vivitar 20mm wide and a nikon 80-200mm AF, a nikormat with 70-210 macro and 50mm, nikon F3, and hasselblad 500cm with a 150mm but will soon be a 50mm.
 
I can't comment on picture quality, film vs. digital, but unless you want prints of everything you take, digital beats film. Sequence shots, and any post processing is so much easier with digital. And you only make prints of the photos you want (the ones that turn out well).

As well, setting ISO, shutter speeds and arpeture's is easier with digital due to being able to take test shots
 
Pentax MX

I want to go dslr next year, as I wont have a dark room in college like I do now.

so what camera are most of you happy with? I am thinking d70s but I am a little Nikon bias, since my dad shoots a f100 and it is awesome. The d200 is really nice looking but a little expensive. Also what digital lenses are most of you shooting?
 
thats a super tight budget setup. most pros use lens that cost each more than his entire setup does. doesn't mean its not good though, i plan on buying the wide angle he has, and probably the super wide too.

for the record, i have a rebelXT handfull of usefull lenses, an canon AE-1 with a bunch of lenses, and a couple point and shoots (sony DSC-W1 Canon SD400)

Still have:

28-105 3.5-4.5 II USM and

100-300 5.6, but are on their way out.

Filters, tripods and a sick Lowepro backpack to haul it all in.

And a Panasonic Lumix something for parties.

wait, so the grip for the rebel gives you a vertical shutter button like the Mark II?

on that note, let me say that after using the Mark II for several photoshoots (lifestyle and clothing catalog shoots), it is the best camera i've ever used. the burst rate is awesome, quality is unmatched, and the weather sealing is a godsend in weather conditions. if i ever get a windfall of a few grand, i'm definately going out and picking one, and a couple L series lenses, up.
 
yes, with the BG-E3 grip from canon u get vertical shutter butten + u get to slap rwo batteries in it + u get an adapter for regular AA batteries, just in case.
 
the battery grip rules. wish i could afford one.

also: i just picked up a 28mm f /2.8. it was really cheap (~$100) and is really good so far. better build quality than the 50mm f /1.8 i have. its significantly wider, and almost as bright. good stuff. i can post example shots of how much wider it is if anyone is interested. with the magnification factor, it makes it look almost identicle to a 50mm on a full frame/film camera.

i think everyone with an SLR needs a 50 1.8. its so damn cheap and an amazing lens. i also highly reccomend the 28.
