A representation of potential energy should contain a subject that is about to release built up energy. The image should cause the viewer to immediately play, in their imagination, what is inevitably going to happen. So the image could have a bowling ball teetering on the edge of a cliff, someone about to fall on their face, or simply a loaded gun. The key here will be how well you can inspire a "that thing is going to...." episode in the audience’s imagination.
