and an e-round of applause to our winner, COLE.

RULES

-Post one photo only

-Try to take the photo during the period of the contest, but this is not required

-You cannot post something you posted in a previous contest

-Winner cannot submit a photo

-No hating other people's photos, constructive criticism is fine

In spirit of the winning photo, COLE. has chosen the topic of long exposure photos

This is a broad topic so incorporate whatever you want, it just needs to be very obvious that you used a longer shutter speed. Take pictures at night, in bad light, or just in ways that represent a long exposure. So break out those tripods, remote releases, or anything helpful and go for it

Here are some sample photos he provided:

haha I merely pointed out you and the MILFs inability to tell time. Criticism can be hard to take even when it's constructive, so I'll excuse your continued defensiveness.

hdr=yuck. I know you can do better nick ^^

I still really think you guys should post the winners image in the thread, I have no idea which shot was coles, nor am I going to go back and and count the votes to see which one was his.

But finally, my threads! hopefully I dont miss this isht again.

Alright, I'm going to have to call you out. Every week it's "Oh, dang! I forgot! Hopefully next time I'll remember!" Then you go ahead and rip on other peoples photos who actually had the balls to enter (seagull photo). We've heard all your shit back in the D40 thread. It's time to put up or shut up.

I am sorry I had to post that in the competition thread, but I feel it was necessary. Sick photos so far everyone.

Call me hombre, I dont care, but in all honesty, I do forget every time. This semesters been super fucking busy and shooting for the school paper hasnt helped. And I wasnt ripping on nick, just stating my opinion, and what I think he is capable of.

Oh and another reason I miss the majority of these (besides Im lazy as fuck) is that I actually wait til I see the thread topic then go shoot it, not just post an image Ive pulled out my folders..but by the time dead line has come everyone ahas already submitted their shots they have previously taken and it doesnt get bumped to the top. And I really did miss that fall shoot, completely forgot about it, but during the voting week I did go out and shoot, and would be more than happy to send that shot to you if you want. (Seriously pm me if you want.. Dont wanna post here, might get confused on shots)

Sorry I try to actually go out and shoot once I hear the assignment, but isnt that what this whole contest is about?

Way to find the north star... so ill. I've been wanting to do some really long exposure stuff but I'm not sure how to keep the shutter open on bulb without shaking the camera (I have a canon 20d) any ideas?

tripod and timed shutter release. Just need to press the button and it takes it like 2 seconds after for as long as you set the shutter open for.

yeah (unless I misunderstood you) I get that, but that shot is over a thirty second exposure (which is max on a the 20d) I want to shoot on bulb so i can have like a ten minute exposure, which I would have to hold the shutter release open manually. Unless there is another way.

I'm not sure how it is with the 20D but for my Nikon D90 i have a wireless remote I use with bulb. so one click opens and one click closes the shutter. It sounds like you have to manually hold the release so I've heard you can use a rubber band and I'm sure you know to use a tripod. hope that helps

you need a remote release

lock the shutter, wait 10 mins, unlock it, wait 10 more for it to process, you're golden

some people will take like 3 10 min exposures and combine them for ultimate star trail shots

Thanks man! Here is the EXIF data from the raw file:f/4.85 second exposureISO 100Shot with a D200 w/18-200 @ 52mm

mine was around $30 i think, not too bad for camera gear but when you actually get the thing you wonder why it cost so much

either way it works great and you can't really do 30+ second exposures without it

you'll also find yourself using it for other things so it's a good thing to have

if you're going to make a stab at HDR (a pretty weak one IMO) you should find a different thread.

yes, i agree hdr does not look "real" or "pure". However, this is a thread full of long exposure photographs, a lot of which that don't look "real", "natural" or "pure" either.

Actually, I clearly said that I am not hating. I said that it doesn't look real to me. You inferred (incorrectly at that) that I don't like it because it doesn't look real. I was simply stating a fact. I meant no disrespect.

And i wasn't commenting on HDR. I was commenting you your photo. I am not quite sure from your post which one you thought i was talking about.
