Photo Backpack

I was looking to get a photo backpack for skiing so I need it to be waterproof and have good protection. I have a Nikon D60 with an 18-55 and 55-200. I also have a Nikon F90 35mm Camera that i'd like to take once in a while. That one has a 28-70 on it. And I also want room for future lenses and stuff. So i know about the dakine sequence and mission photo, but are they the best choice or does another company make something better that will fit all that stuff? What do you guys use? Ohh and i'd like to keep it pretty small if I can.

pelican cases are a good case if you're just doing some basic traveling (and don't mind lugging around a plastic briefcase) but trust me, carrying that thing around all day on the mountain would be a complete bitch and fairly impractical.

i use a dakine sequence bag and i've been nothing less than stoked on it's performance protection and durability thus far. on any given day i'll be carrying the following:

canon 40d with battery grip

50mm

70-200mm

15mm fisheye

2 pocket wizards

530ex flash

lens wipes

cables

battery chargers

tripod

zip ties

small mini dv cam

alienbees strobe head

lightstand

vagabond II power pack

and often times other small pieces and parts. and it all fits in or on the bag. i attach some of the bigger stuff like the strobe bag to the sequence with a carabiner. i don't go light on the bag whatsoever, i stress the zippers, attach a ton of extra weight to the outside straps of it, set it down in snowy muddy parking lots, and frequently toss out 4 letter words when dipshits decide to make turns too close, spraying all my shit in my bag as i'm trying to setup. still has held up great and it's on its 2nd season of such abuse.

i also know that erik seo uses f-stop gear, and he raves about it. there's actually a really cool testimonial about their quality from his blog here:

http://erikseo.com/blog/2008/reviews/glad-to-have-luck-and-good-gear/

i've seen more than a few other photographers using the sequence as well. i've heard some good things about the ogio stuff, and some bad things. never have it used it myself tho so i can't form too much of an opinion.

hope i helped

I am fortunate to have both the :

which i bought from my xt and has served it purpose great, also fits my new 40d and 70-200 2.8

and with the new camera i got another one:

Two different styles for different possibilities in travel

fstopgear.com

they are more expensive but worth it. I have the Satori (you would not need it) and it holds:

30D

18-55 (soon going to be a 17-40)

50 1.8

70-200

two canon flashes

3 pocket wizards

extra batteries (for camera, flashes, and pw)

extra cards

battery charger

light stand

tripod/monopod

extra filter

it holds that all pretty well and I can still get all my BC gear, some food and water and extra cloths in it.

Also if your going to be hiking at all, no other packs carry as well as these do.

Also if you need to carry skis on your pack the f-stop packs are the only ones that are able to carry fat skis. in all honesty the dakine camera packs are pretty worthless compared to these. They are akward and don't carry well, can't handle fat skis and not very water proof.

For what you need I would suggest the Lotus.

the only other pack I would suggest you get is the, lowe pro Orion Trekker.

my ogio atiba mini kills it.
i'm packing an XSi18-55mm50mm70-300mm18mm fish (in its own soft shell case)430ex flashtransmitterits got zippers inside for all my memory cards, filters, battery charger etc.plus it has elastics on the outside, both sides, for my tripod or poles or both.

f-stop gear looks so sick and ive only heard good things about it but its hard to find at stores at a lower price

i have the reload and it fits my fx1, tapes, batteries and other stuff and I can put my tripod on the outside

too bad i already have a backpack but if i didnt or if i need a bigger one sometime im def going with f-stop
